    I worked at ARRIS full-time

    Pros

I worked with some very knowledgeable people at ARRIS and they were always willing to help me improve my skills and knowledge. Despite a few high pressure situations everyone still remains professional; meetings and discussions never get heated or emotional. A wide array of sophisticated technology is frequently used so I don't feel like I'm writing code that could've been made 10 years ago.

    Cons

Communication and organization is often a struggle with projects. Deadlines move, requirements change, and rarely is anyone but top management notified. People are free to make their own processes and workflows, rarely are things formally done except during deployment, and this leads to many people not knowing what is going on. Email is the preferred method of distributing information and that comes with many downsides, especially when looking up old information.

    Advice to Management

There are many bugs and deficiencies in core products that are often fixed in the "next version". This leaves current customers with a broken product that we supposedly still support. There are also many common features that are added into the core product during almost every deployment yet there seems to be no plan to make these features a part of the core product. The segregation of the core developers and the "ad hoc" developers creates a lot of frustration when the same bugs continually need to be patched.
