Pros

- Schedule flexibility, can work 4-10s or 5-8s - Laid back coworker culture, great people - Safety culture is taken seriously - Lax management allows freedom to play other roles

Cons

- No raises are provided unless begged for, knew many coworkers that hadn't gotten raises in 2-3 years (instead were offered better titles as compensation) - You are forced to stay for 45 minutes longer than your usual schedule if you take the company bus (without pay) - Management is in absolute chaos. Turnover is very high, bare minimum and often contradictory guidance provided to employees, incoherent or never-followed documentation and operating procedures, professional software rarely provided. On top of all that, the business strategy seems constantly confused and reactive, burning money daily in the most fantastical places while pinching pennies over salaries and office expenses. - Management has an adversarial attitude towards the union; the parent company seems uninterested in improving working conditions and pay; constant complaints will be heard about how "nobody wants to work in mining anymore" while the compensation is unspectacular compared to the numerous mines nearby - Employees are nudged to not reveal their pay to coworkers since its "against company policy" - You are expected to use your own personal phone to complete required tasks that could not be done otherwise, and pay for your own plan since only a single specific provider covers the area within the mine. No internet connection is provided for personal devices. - Compensation is insufficient for the daily commute - Supervisors are constantly overworked and usually absent

Pros

Good pay for lazy guys, lots of vacation/time off, if you get in with the right people you can sail on to retirement with little work. It is a good stepping stone.

Cons

Management only cares about impressing those above so they can climb the corporate ladder; you get ahead by who you know not what you do. Skills, hard work and results does not matter; leaders are clueless as to what subordinates actually do; leaders don't treat all team members equally; development goals are absent as you are forced to put down what your leader wants you to develop and not what you actually want to develop for the benefit of the company. leaders/mgrs will stop you from moving within the company if they don't want you to leave the dept. even if it's on your development goals and the company long term goals. Some departments will hold employees to staying 3 yrs while other depts will allow you to move in less time which clearly shows which managers genuinely care about supporting their people and not hindering development; uneven workload and no recognition for extra effort; lots of lip service with little action/things take way too long to change/progress/be completed; technology is 25 years behind competition. There are more wrong decisions, more lazy employees, more favoritism in hiring, firing, promoting and in vendors selection. Competition makes a lot of effort to motivate and retain their good employees while Asarco does the opposite by allowing good employees to leave for better chances and opportunities.
