I worked at ASB Bank full-time

    Pros

Good place to start a banking career. Wide network nation wide, as well as presents opportunities in Australia

    Cons

Management was stiff. Do no promote from within employees tend to move a lot horizontally rather than vertically. Low pay in comparison with other banks.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the work environment a bit rather than just the customer side. Employees need to be kept happy and motivated and this begins with management.

I worked at ASB Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Was able to work independently in a Branch environment. Learnt heaps, and was great to set up a network of clients. Able to meet most targets, and gain incentives.

    Cons

Extremely hard to get a good raise especially when the culture seems to revolve around targets only. Even when one KPI is exceeded by a mile and a half, it still doesn't matter. Managers do not seem to be able to see the bigger picture, and relationship with clients is secondary to selling of products.

    Advice to Management

Focus on relationship building and look at the bigger picture. I worked at a much bigger bank before ASB, and still, the branch manager at the time thought he knew it all.

I have been working at ASB Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really care about what they do. Reminds me of a San Francisco start-up in its setup (floating desks, relaxed)

    Cons

Not the cut-throat City environment, but relax and listen and you will see that you can still learn a lot.

    Advice to Management

Keep focussing on your values. It works.

I worked at ASB Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Open plan office works well. Colleagues are generally friendly. Technology is reasonably good.

    Cons

Senior management encourages consistently long hours, without compensation or time back - this often goes unappreciated and is expected. High staff turnover and uneven work split due to this. Senior management is not approachable or open to ideas, despite the bank promoting innovation.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff better, the excessively high staff turnover is evidence of the environment they are working in.

I worked at ASB Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People work hard and are friendly and professional. Parts other than accounting group look good to work in.

    Cons

Management encourages overtime and overwork due to staffing levels. High level of corporate politics.

    Advice to Management

Efficiency only gets you so far. Be more considerate of staff and culture. Hopefully it has improved since 2015 but doubt it.
