I worked at ASB Bank full-time

    Pros

Good place to start a banking career. Wide network nation wide, as well as presents opportunities in Australia

    Cons

Management was stiff. Do no promote from within employees tend to move a lot horizontally rather than vertically. Low pay in comparison with other banks.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the work environment a bit rather than just the customer side. Employees need to be kept happy and motivated and this begins with management.

I worked at ASB Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Was able to work independently in a Branch environment. Learnt heaps, and was great to set up a network of clients. Able to meet most targets, and gain incentives.

    Cons

Extremely hard to get a good raise especially when the culture seems to revolve around targets only. Even when one KPI is exceeded by a mile and a half, it still doesn't matter. Managers do not seem to be able to see the bigger picture, and relationship with clients is secondary to selling of products.

    Advice to Management

Focus on relationship building and look at the bigger picture. I worked at a much bigger bank before ASB, and still, the branch manager at the time thought he knew it all.

I have been working at ASB Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ASB is a very positive working environment. They look after all your needs and are generally speaking a generous employer. They offer a lot of fringe benefits to staff and try to give advancement opportunities.

    Cons

High performers tend to get overloaded with work which can be tough as there are lots of free loaders enjoying the gravy train.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more high performing staff.

I worked at ASB Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked at ASB for 10 years

    - Great culture / people
    - Good investment into technology and products
    - Great area to grow, so massive, alot of jobs internally

    Cons

    - Hard to influence change like any large organisation - it has taken the company 2 years to transform their digital teams to agile and even then its only agile lipstick as you can only roll so far with agile in a large bank
    - Alot of people have been there for too long which comes with a reluctance to change in culture or stay relevant or motivated. Im talking about people who have worked there for 10, 15, 20, 25 years in IT!
    - It is VERY easy to stay comfortable, do the bear minimum, and stay in the same job for 5 years
    - The IT department is located in albany which is a MASSIVE disconnect from product & technology. (Throw it over the fence style execution). The IT department are so removed from their customers and have no understanding of their customers both internal and external facing

    Advice to Management

Considering its a bank with 5000+ people, ASB is doing a good job, and great at branding their relevance in the community.

Advice to management - be agile, do agile, become agile - all the way up to executive. Its a mindset change, not a $$$ change with pretty boards, post it notes, or standups.

    Cons

Like other organisations, some budget constraints to implement strategic changes, complacency, need to reinvigorate innovations

    Advice to Management

Continue to built capabilities to stay competitive in the ever-changing market

    Pros

    Nice place to work
    Good Colleagues
    Friday Drinks
    Friendly environment

    Cons

Management didn't see the problems correctly
Hiring people from outside instead of promoting people from the inside

    Advice to Management
