I have been working at ASDA as a contractor

    Pros

Working for such a large company will always look good on your CV.

    Cons

As a contractor you do not get the staff discount, you aren't allowed to park on site and you aren't allowed to use the company store. They also don't make you feel very welcome. They will take their departments off for frequent away days / team builds but you have to provide your own stationery. The on site cafe / canteen is over priced despite being full of ASDA products.

    Advice to Management

Treat your contractors more like your actual emoployee's after all, they are carrying out work important enough that you hired them!

I worked at ASDA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great colleagues to work with and overtime always available, good for students although they don't know the meaning of how to work and flexible hours.

    Cons

Section leader is dumb all he/she does is walk around, manager looks lost and does the same job as section leader( don't know what's the point of having them if they are doing the same thing as section leaders and some colleagues are lazy due to being unmotivated.

    Advice to Management

Find better people to hire rather than students all the time and better pay. Also s/l and managers need retraining as a store colleague could do a better job than them.

    Pros

Flexible hours to an extent. They handled me going to university and changing my contract to seasonal rather than transfer well.

    Cons

Zero hours contract meant that I was treated as a dogs body and had no routine despite verbal agreement. I felt pressured to take hours that I didn't ask for or want and the tiers of management often got things confused between them. Rotas were a mess and constantly changed without me being informed. I was repeatedly contacted when I was off sick and pestered for a doctor's note after one day of sickness and also rang numerous times whilst on holiday.

    Advice to Management

The tiers of section leaders and managers makes running a team confusing and a mess at times when those in the roles are rewarded for time served not suitability.

    I worked at ASDA part-time

    Pros

Really easy work. Good pay for what the job is.

    Cons

Extremely monotonous, stacking shelves is very repetitive. Working on checkouts is ok, sometimes you get asked to cover for people when it gets busy.
