      Chilled

      Jan 17, 2021 - Twilight Colleague

      Pros

      Decent pay, good section leaders

      Cons

too much workload and not enough colleagues most of the time. more and more work put onto Twilight as mornings are either lazy or staff has been cut. Most of the twilight colleagues unhappy due to workload increase in covid period while everyone gets free handouts from Boris. Almost never finish on time, usually 2-3 hours late. No paid breaks so you will miss some pay (i.e. take 30 min break but 45min is deducted due to going overtime everyday). Also got scammed out of Christmas day pay, have been doing Fridays and Saturdays for 6 months but didn't get paid for Christmas because the manager didn't officially change my contract days, just changed them on the rota. bottom line it pays the bills but not something to stay in for too long.

Managers don't back you and will throw you under bus at any given opportunity.

Oct 15, 2020 - Section Leader in Carlisle, England, England

      Pros

Plenty of overtime available if you want it. Most colleagues are great to work with and I have made friends for life.

      Cons

Managers don't trust theyre colleagues or section leaders to do their jobs so constantly try and micro manage everything. People are looked down on if they only work their contracted hours regardless of their personal circumstances. Managers never fight for you or back you up and will protect themselves at your expense. Colleague wellfare isn't a major concern to them, as long you turn up for work, they aren't bothered. Working-time directive is largely ignored unless it benefits them which means they expect you to finish at 10pm and be back at work 6am somedays.

      Unprofessional management

Sep 25, 2020 - Checkout Operator in Burnley, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent pay for a student/young person vs other stores

      Cons

Very unprofessional management - gossiped about employee complaints and concerns made to manager in confidence. Management prefers drama to solving problems Nepotism - growth at the store is only possible if you're in the management inner gossip circle. colleagues who were extremely qualified and had been there for years are overlooked for promotion Section leader having inappropriate relations at work with zero consequence or reprimanding

Avoid unless you want your soul sucked from you

      Pros

Get to drive broken vans and carry a brick (palm) while being treated like a slave, while management suck your youthfull soul from you daily..

      Cons

Everything is broken but it'll be your fault it's broken, managers as usefull as a chocolate tea pot and section leaders don't know how to listen and take action on things unless it's trying to dump shifts on you without you even knowing, pay rate may say 9 pound an hour but your 4 weekly pay will come in shillings and tuppence.. and don't get me started on trying to get a holiday as your leader will decline it and then tell you what days you can have off that benefits them..

      Horrific Place to Work

Oct 13, 2019 - Sales Associate in London, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

10% discount Double discount days Shift work is good for parents Job itself is pretty easy, however...

      Cons

      1. No concern for staff welfare. Many staff are signed off sick due to stress. 2. Serious problems with security (shoplifting is rampant) 3. Major issues in communication between departments and managers 4. Massive cutbacks to staff meaning departments are poorly stocked and staff are overwhelmed 5. Major issues with management. Poor communication. Everyone is out for themselves. Everything takes too long. Admin are a joke. 6.No proper training! 7. Aggressive attitude to sick days and time off Honestly, Asda is a horrific place to work. I'm leaving as soon as I can get another job. I've never worked anywhere so disorganised. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm so stressed out all the time. There is no concern for staff welfare. Staff are routinely harassed and verbally assaulted, even harassed by customers on social media. Management do not care. Only look at numbers and figures. Senior staff members undermine section leaders all the time. Too many staff leaving and not being replaced. Shoplifters are never prosecuted so they return all the time. No one really cares anymore about Asda, we all just do the bare minimum. Also, too much staff theft going on without repercussions (no police action. If you're caught stealing, the police should get involved. But no, not at Asda! You'll just be asked if you'd like to resign instead) Don't work at Asda. JUST DON'T!
