Engineering is key, but not for every team
May 15, 2018 - Senior Software Engineer in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great work life balance Nice people everywhere Not too much politics unless you're going for promos. Lots of cool initiatives like Tech Developers Monthly skill up day as well as 10 percent innovation time (Friday afternoons) Young company, i think the average age of staff is around mid 20s.
Cons
AGILE DELIVERY Managers are generally poor developers from other companies trying their hand at management. ASOS are not good at hiring good managers, I've only had one that I've completely respected and he was promoted twice, rightly so. Poor understanding of the progression process, the skills chart has been updated so many times, no one really knows how to get a promo outside of the pub.. Facade of women in tech initiatives recently to push equality for women, when again women are still not getting equal pay. A wide spread adjustment was done very recently to try and address the difference in pay gap without mentioning exactly the reason why.

low salary, no progression, terrible MICRO MANAGERS

discount and work life balance
Cons
micro managers don't know how to manage which then feeds down into other "managers", they show favourtism. god forbid you express how you feel you are seen as negative and will get managed out rather than them helping to solve the problem. even if multiple people in the team have expressed the same reasons. micro managing seems to be a key theme throughout the company. extremely low salary, no clear progression as they try to keep you in the role at a low level delaying the promotion

Great benefits but there are incompetent individuals in the management who were promoted on their drinking talents
Jul 11, 2018 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent benefits, one of the best I've received. Birthday day off, 40% discount from the store, 20% from the boutique. Generous bonus available. Fantastic and diverse canteen. Great work/life balance
Cons
Although there were many talented people working there, however there was a drinking culture; some were promoted because based on hanging out at the pub with their manager regularly. I was in the IT department, a large macho culture was present too.

Used to be amazing but now bullying and poor management ruin the atmosphere.
Dec 10, 2018 - Retail Merchandiser in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great discount, great parties and really innovative on lots of levels.
Cons
Bullying becoming more and more common with a growing blame culture and unfriendly teams. Management promoted on their technical skills and constantly lack the ability to step up manage their people. Lots of cliques and catty behaviour. HR are disorganised and ignore any real issues. They will always side with the most senior person in the room. Work life balance is non/existent- if you are given the rare opportunity to work slightly fewer days you are expected to still do your full time job in that time....with less pay. Health and well-being is promoted as important to the company but realistically they will ignore any problems and class it as underperformance.

ASOS
Hello, thank you for taking the time to offer us feedback, it is really important for us to hear this so we can make sure we are doing the absolute best for our ASOSers. We’re glad to hear you enjoy the innovation here at ASOS as well as some of our perks such as the discount and parties. We are disappointed to hear your feedback on bullying, promotions and work life balance. We would like to address this for you below. Bullying- we have a zero tolerance policy on bullying and we would recommend you speak to your People Partner about this, as this is something we take incredibly seriously. Work/Life balance- Retail and online fashion is a very face paced industry, and we know that’s even more so at ASOS. We’re really conscious of how fast paced it is and have worked hard over the last couple of years to improve people’s work-life balance. We know there’s still some work to do but feedback we’ve had so far has been positive – we’ve introduced and reclarified expectations around flexi-time and are accommodating more and more part time working patters/ requests. Health and wellbeing- As well as looking at work-life balance we also want to ensure everyone looks after their wellbeing in general. We’re proud to have various onsite services available which people can use to maintain wellbeing. Some of these facilities include our free onsite gym open to all employees throughout the day, yoga classes, wellbeing rooms including massage, plus mental health services for our ASOSers including the 24/7 Employee Assistance programme, private medical cover, onsite mental health first aiders, membership to the Headspace app and more. Once again, thank you for taking the time to review us, it is important for us to hear this feedback so we can continuously do the best for our ASOSers. We would encourage you to reach out to your People Partner to ensure we can offer you support. We wish you continued success in your career with us.
