I worked at AT&T as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved the people - from my Supervisor all the way down. They were the absolute best part of working for that company. I miss working with them.

    Cons

The position I held was a contract job and had a finite term of 3 years. Company policy was such that changing from contract to full time employee was impossible.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to keep the people you want.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

great benefits, competitive pay; laid back work environment

    Cons

limited chance for advancement; inconsistency in treating employees and must belong to the union yet I received more benefits before we were union

    Advice to Management

Managers need more consistency for treating employees. It seems like the people that produce or attend the least get the most attention and reward

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive benefits and pay, equality focused, they provide many opportunities for additional training and schooling as a paid perk. High tech focused.

    Cons

Many times senior management will make decisions that have adverse effects on downstream work force that appear illogical and arbitrary.

    Advice to Management

    Trust second level managers more.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

After 20 years at AT&T I can honestly say it was bad job to begin with and it never improved. The lack of respect for skilled workers makes working here very depressing.

    Cons

DBAs were replaced by lower paid workers from Tech Mahindra. They are not as skilled as the American DBAs that were let go however that does not matter to AT&T.

    Advice to Management

Contracts with TechMahindra may save you money now but long term your shop will be in such disarray you will have to spend much more hiring American workers to come into compliance with state and federal law regarding privacy. Your databases are wide open and you believe all your data is safe. Think again.

I worked at AT&T as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Ability to grow as you want but with very little training. You can work from home. Excellent group of employees to work with.

    Cons

Very little training, constant layoffs, communication is severely lacking. The employees need to be more involved with decisions that effect their every day work. This was not happening in the group I was in.

    Advice to Management

Provide more training so the company stands out with better ratings then it does now. Communication is a big problem. Everyone should be included in team meetings.
