    I worked at AT&T as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    I loved the people - from my Supervisor all the way down. They were the absolute best part of working for that company. I miss working with them.

    Cons

    The position I held was a contract job and had a finite term of 3 years. Company policy was such that changing from contract to full time employee was impossible.

    Advice to Management

    Find ways to keep the people you want.

    Decent work life balance, 401K match, pension plan and benefits.

    Cons

    Outsourcing most jobs to save $$$, and loosing experienced, talented, skilled professionals by letting them go without a severance package.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees with well deserved respect by compensating them with good severance if being let go.

    Education opportunities, Work from home on Fridays.

    Cons

    They're constantly laying people off, and they call the people they layoff "Surplus"!

    Also, they do not choose the people they layoff by their work, it's usually who you know or how long you have been there even if you're doing a poor job, they say they do this because they want to keep people who know there many, many jumbled systems. ????

    Advice to Management

    Treat people like they're humans and also, that one day you will have to answer to how you treated people here on earth. Also, may be higher ups should take a cut in pay if they're so concerned about money.

    limited chance for advancement; inconsistency in treating employees and must belong to the union yet I received more benefits before we were union

    Managers need more consistency for treating employees. It seems like the people that produce or attend the least get the most attention and reward

    Competitive benefits and pay, equality focused, they provide many opportunities for additional training and schooling as a paid perk. High tech focused.

    Many times senior management will make decisions that have adverse effects on downstream work force that appear illogical and arbitrary.

    Job security is a big concern. The company has begun outsourcing a lot of IT jobs.
