    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, pay and benefits. Had the opportunity to telecommute for years and the concessions for wireless, internet and TV service were great!

    Cons

Not really anything other than saying you can't get too comfortable as it's currently a bloodbath with all the surplusing that's going on. A lot of senior employees like myself were surplused out due to length of service/pay only for the jobs to come open again the next quarter and be filled by less experienced people they could pay less.

    Advice to Management

Stop running the enterprise off of a spreadsheet where it's constantly adjusted to see the numbers that you want and STOP using 'due to the needs of the business' as a reason to restructure everything.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong company ethics. Excellent health benefits and 401 K. Opportunities are provided and in some cases one is able telecommute as needed.

    Cons

Upsizing followed by downsizing and vice versa. Collaboration is key but due to Company size it still remains somewhat bureaucratic.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Relative Job Security for High Performers.
If you perform well, leadership will typically find you a new position during reorganization’s, but possibly a less desirable role.

    Cons

Annual “reorganization” and surpluses aka layoffs.
Commissions are capped which hinders motivation.
Sales leadership are more political roles rather than hungry to learn, teach, and excel in the art of sales.

    Advice to Management

Un-cap commissions and allow sales compensation plans to drive performance. Current comp plans are essentially budgets designed by accountants so each group falls within highly controlled metrics. High performing reps are often punished with commission caps.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary and opportunities to move within the company

    Cons

a very toxic corporate culture introduced by SBC which was a company run by the CFO and bean counters.
stress from twice a year layoffs in the name of rightsizing.
very few perks outside of discounts for services offered by the company.
    No travel nor training budgets
Consumed with a volume of irrelevance in the web based training they do provide.
Entire campuses filled with smelly H1B workers supplanting American jobs. (Alpharetta GA)

    Advice to Management

lay off the people who do not perform, but do not constantly threaten large swaths of people with corporate memos on a 6 month basis. it shows that we are all but pawns, even the high contributors.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

cutting edge technology, great employees, telecommuting policy and free employee phone

    Cons

constant layoffs, threats to move to Dallas but never committing to staying in Atlanta or to move which greatly adds to stress. GOOD executive leaders are leaving in droves and the remaining dept leads are incompetent boot lickers but they flatter the upper execs and so they remain. Its not a place to go if you want to work as a team and create a best in class product. Lots of focus on continuing education but no time or money to do it. At this point its like the walking dead with all the layoffs and fatigue.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to mitigate the damage done by the constant layoffs. Reduce the boot licker, non thinking leadership. Pay employees a fair market wage. Increase the bonus. It used to be around 15% and now its about 10%. You want top talent, then retain it.

    Pros

Stable company that is always looking into the future

    Cons

Acts like a large corporation, talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. Constantly re-organizing and surplussing people.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your employees more than telling them how happy they should be at AT&T.

    I have been working at AT&T full-time

    Pros

None, the job get worse every few months.

    Cons

Micromanaging Managers, having tantrums over every typo, the job is a hostel work environment. I honestly feel Like I am stuck in a third world sweatshop, ran by lunatics. Reason and Common sense and ITIL standard processes are a joke, everything is a one off an d the Incident Managers are set up to fail.

    Advice to Management

Replace your Management, and keep talk to your incident Managers. Create standard processes and enforce them, remove the Yes Men from the higher ranks that undermine the standard processes.
