I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities here. Usually have competent managers in place, making good decisions. If you network within the company, it's possible to move around to get the kind of position/experience you want

    Cons

It's a huge company, so expect some friction. Still, things work pretty smoothly for such a large ship, though. Also, sometimes it's possible to get overworked on certain projects. Eventually you get some relief -- it just takes a while at times.

    Advice to Management

The company seems genuinely to care about employees. This is a great policy. Keep at it, even if it seems expensive and time consuming sometimes. It matters.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working at AT&T is like playing for the New England Patriots, golden state Warriors, or Alabama Crimson Tide. You'll work with talented, motivated, driven peers on game changing products with the latest technology. You get to sharpen your skills collaborating with peers and have access to top flight continuing education through T University. You'll have the opportunity to compete and win at the highest levels (both internally and externally).

    Cons

This is the big leagues, so the bar is set really high to stand out and get ahead. As one of my mentors was fond of saying "I know that you are qualified to take on this next opportunity, but you need to answer are you Competitive?" AT&T has a wealth of opportunity and lots of qualified employees seeking those next opportunities. You have to keep working, keep getting better, as you strive to win that starting position. You also have to keep supporting your peers and working together to win as a team -- even if you're spending time in a supporting role.

    Advice to Management

Keep the organization flat, compensation equitable from top to bottom, and keep giving us employees that chance to work on meaningful work that matters.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A good place for longevity and pay and benefits are pretty good. Employees are covered by an union. Retirement benefits are cool.

    Cons

The benefits use to be bar none and only a few other companies could compete. Many people have had long careers in the past.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

AT&T has a very diverse workforce. You will work with people from different backgrounds, races and cultures. They have ERG's (Employee Resource Groups) that you can align your social life with and collaborate with like minded people. Also, AT&T pays very well. I believe they have been fair in their merit adjustments each year being employed.

    Cons

AT&T tends to always challenge the status quo by looking at innovation in ways to always improve their products, service, technology, etc for the next century. Given the on-going changes and challenges for the 21st century, they do force management reductions or layoffs quite often. They have occurred every year over the last several years I've worked there.

    Advice to Management

Continue to push training and further education. It is critical to today's changing demands and challenges in the information technology age. Be honest with your subordinates regarding any changes in the business that may impact them regardless of their performance. And keep thriving and using the power of "&" to continue connecting the world and doing it better than everyone else.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company which would suggest lots of opportunity. Many departments and roles to be interested in.

    Cons

Finding an advocate can be difficult, just because of sheer size. Difficult to make transitions without that advocate.

    Advice to Management

Realistically there is nothing management can and will do because the company is just too large to be cohesive

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Salary, tuition reimbursement educational opportunities, professional in house training opportunities

    Cons

in a constant state of flux (reorganizations). No loyalty. Employees that made this company are considered irrelevant and dispensable. While the 401k is great and investment choices are 2nd to none, their Health Insurance benefits are horrible. no choices except for union employees. Managers have a high deductible plan and unless you make a lot of money, its not a practical alternative.

    Advice to Management

consider your employees in all of your decisions, not just the stock holders.
