I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A fast moving company with vast resources, expertise and market presence focused on the bottom line. Salary is competitive and most benefits are good, although healthcare is high deductible, "consumer-driven" coverage.

    Cons

Everyday customers can be an inconvenience and employee loyalty is non-existent beyond small workgroups. Customer service has and still suffers from the enormity of the company. It is a conveyor belt service provider and as long as your service stays on the conveyor belt, it's great. But woe be unto you if you fall off that belt. Perhaps one of the most bureaucratic corporations in the country with cookie cutter policies without nuance or flexibility. It is not a caring company unless there is an award that can be achieved to tout it is a great place to work for (fill in the blank demographic). While making big news granting bonuses to employees after the tax cut bill passed, it quietly issued pink slips to thousands within a week. That got precious little press and was way more impactful than handing out $1,000 bonuses to people who were losing jobs they've held for many years. After AT&T acquired the company I worked for, it made dramatic cuts in support of the communities it served and its involvement and support of community-based organizations, opting instead for strategic support of organizations that garner the most headlines. Local community support budgets were slashed as much as 90% from those of my original company. Most local community support is by design linked to strategic government and political relationships and initiatives. If you live in one of the major markets, there are opportunities to climb the ladder. If you live in smaller markets, you do well to hang on to the ladder despite your talents or abilities.

    Advice to Management

Start really caring about your employees and your customers as much as your shareholders and Wall Street analysts. Eventually, the company will crush itself under the weight of its own bureaucracy and lack of compassion for its people, paying customers and the communities it has abandoned.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company to gain experience, but very tough to stay with. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. Great experience and benefits.

    Cons

Very stressful. I have worked here for 12 years and the stress is well above average. I really wish I could leave work at work! Stop trying to get more work for less pay. Compensation should reflect performance.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately your direct manager had no more control over your work load than you do. Changes need to be made at the C level.

    Cons

    Toxic management

    Advice to Management

After 16 years in Network Operations, it all came down to one stupid narcissistic Director. We had to part ways. Now I tell everyone I can what a sorry company it is.

I worked at AT&T (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good pay
    Nice set up

    Cons

    Higher level call the shots
    Job security
    Hours

    Advice to Management

I've always heard how good of a company bellsouth was before it became AT&T. I've worked in sales which you can make a lot of money sometimes 2600.00 just for 2 weeks but it's too stressful. If you like to sell this is the job for you. I left that department and went to customer service which isn't as stressful and you have more job security normally! The company was making us tell the customers how to do our job, because they knew they were going to close our department. The pay was great, good benefits and the union is who faught to keep our jobs. Which wasn't successful in the end. The higher heads are who you need watch out for. The in office environment was great. Company was so much better before now I'm not quite sure...

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The money is good and the benefits are excellent. Training is extensive and thorough. Tuition reimbursement is also available and quite generous.

    Cons

The entire wireless sales force is unionized, which makes the job of middle management very difficult. There are targets set for performance that are not enforceable due to union contract.

    Advice to Management

Either follow union guidelines in performance expectations or get rid of the union.
