I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility with work hours. Good benefits. When this company makes a move, it's always a big move. There are lots of opportunities within the company itself to move about in different directions. There's the wireline, mobility, DirecTV, uverse, entertainment group, marketing, sales, etc. Lots of different areas but all within the company. Working here is a lot like understanding the value of not rushing into things before making a good decision. You won't have the glamour of someplace cool and innovative. But instead it's a slow and steady growth, inasmuch that you get what you put into your work. Company is undergoing a transformation of it's workforce (200k people) by bringing the skills needed for the technology-driven future.

    Cons

Very stressful. Staff movement happens too often.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to invest in. Modernizing it's far reaching infrastructure.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fairly good benefits, large variety of problems to solve, and reasonable pay. The company is looking to pivot into new industries so there are many new opportunities for work.

    Cons

Very hierarchical management structure leading to a very inefficient corporate environment. Typical problems with large companies; yearly layoffs, leadership with different objectives in mind.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the management structure. Managers are constantly looking to try moving up the hierarchy which leads to their incentives (short term success) to come at the expense of long term success.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are fantastic - both product discounts and healthcare. The pay is decent unless you are in a non-customer facing or support job.

    Cons

Constant purchasing of other companies creates a never-ending cycle of layoffs and "surplus." Those of us with more than 15 years service were the first to go, regardless of position or performance. If you are over 40, don't bother.

    Advice to Management

Youth is not the answer to everything just because they cost less. Retain some of the wireline employees. Bring the ordering centers back to the United States. Contract workers are not good for every department.
