I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, telecommuting, free/discounted cell/internet/tv service. If you're a low performer you can fly under the radar for an entire career with nobody taking the initiative to address it.

    Cons

If you aren't a minority in Dallas you have no future with this company. AT&T does everything they can to put minority candidates into roles, even if the candidate is unbelievably unqualified. This way they can make every 'diversity listing' out there.
They also have a 'location policy' that dictates that they want everyone in Dallas and will offer jobs ONLY to candidates in Dallas. If you want to relocate from one of their other hubs to Dallas at your own expense you may be considered for promotional opportunities, but otherwise you are left to die in whatever city you are currently in, even if you are a high performer.

    Advice to Management

You're doing a fantastic job of running the company into the ground. Eventually you won't be able to continue with the quarter end monkey business to hit EPS numbers. Stop being 100% focused on the shareholder. Stop sponsoring every sporting even under the sun while telling your employees that there is 'no funding' for even the simplest of IT fixes that could save HUNDREDS of man hours each year. This company is pathetic.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benifits an 401k and free uniforms. However they did take away boot allowances

    Cons

To many politics now that they bought Directv.
And cant transfer now due to union discrepencies

    Advice to Management

Shouldnt make it so hard for a tenured employee to stay with your company.

I worked at AT&T (More than 3 years)

    Pros

DirecTV was a great place to work until At&t took over. The company treated their employees like they were valued. At&t offered additional employee discounts.

    Cons

There was no room to grow. If you wanted to stay with the company you had to make lateral job applications or risk being let go due to restructure.

    Advice to Management

Happy employees make a happy business. That's a major reason Directv's

    Pros

Compensation, benefits, great products and service

    Cons

Lack of integrity and the corporate culture is hit or miss depending on where you work and what you do for the company.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at your area and director level managers there is an influx of alarming behavior and a strong lack of integrity especially in the sales organization.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-Benefits are competitive, perhaps slightly better than average.
-Company is trying new things to become relevant to younger workers.
    -Work from home flexibility.
    -They just ditched stacked ranking.
-Lots of jobs here. If you don't like what you're doing, you can move around.

    Cons

-Company is heavily silo'd. Your request for anything will take weeks.
-Teams are not collaborative but are territorial instead. Everything is a threat.
-Legacy ATT teams aren't innovative. All they think about is protecting turf.
-Work is slowed down to the bare minimum. No one is thinking about doing anything efficiently since it would be a potential threat.
-VM requests take 6 months to turn around.
-Service accounts in Active Directory take a few weeks to process.
-Management is letting all this madness happen.
-The best ideas don't make it. What survives are ideas that keep jobs and let's everyone clock their 40.
-Too many old people here. Something like 100,000 people here are at retirement age right now. Lots of old ideas, old ways of doing things. Gimmie a break.
-Likes to say they have collaboration zones in many cities but all the great engineering devops jobs are in either Dallas/L.A./New Jersey for some reason. Maybe they like paying higher salaries?
    ...
    -Too many others to list.

    Advice to Management

Stop the silos. Stop the lazy union style of working. Start collaborating. Start trusting one another. Start realizing that your greatest success lies within the success of others.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CWA union job, got us paid decently. Directv was who I worked for directly. We got free Directv service.

    Cons

Months after CWA negotiated a higher salary, AT&T "surplussed" our office. Watching work my office had done for years being thrown into the scrap pile in favor of software automation was difficult.

    Advice to Management

Keep American jobs. Too many jobs outsourced to India, Mexico, and the Philippines. Customer experience is really suffering lately with agents not able to understand basic English.
