I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is decent since jobs are union

    Cons

No job security they hire on term basis for construction (splicers and lineman)
Management will preach safety but they only care about productivity.
    Benefits are expensive
401 match is decent if you make it pass the first 3 years to be vested

    Advice to Management

All management sucks from first levels all the way up to ceo Randell

I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Room for advancement within the company
Very light daily work load and tasks
Overwhelming feeling of accomplishment being able to work alone

    Cons

You have to work outside in extreme weather conditions
Boss sometimes expects you to find your own work

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

High pay and generous union benefits. In this one department we can take time off when we like, but no other group I know of can.

    Cons

Endless additional rules, requirements, roadblocks, monitoring, tracking, threats...No real job security because they shake up everything as if last quarter's priorities mean nothing this quarter. They expect ever increasing productivity but lease cheaper trucks which aren't designed to do the work we do. One day they suddenly acted as though upper management had just found out that we handle lead jacketed cable (lots of the old stuff is lead) and issued a bunch of rules and procedures, effective immediately, but we have never received the now mandatory gloves, hazmat suits, respirators, etc.

    Advice to Management

There's no point, they aren't listening.
