    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Free to make informed decisions and do the moralistic, right thing for the customer.

    Cons

Working weekends but I don't mind until I meet Mr Right.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to you employees. Listen to their needs and they will pass this on to the customer. They are after all, the reason you exist. No one is immune to failure, not even AT&T. Be kind and do the right thing and good things will come your way.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There people who work at ATT are what make it a great place to work.

    Cons

Unfortunately, they ae choosing to outsource a lot of the key job for service implementation overseas eliminating jobs in the US.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend seeing the value in the employees in the US and the dedication that have given their entire careers to AT&T before making the decision to move job overseas.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Highly Diverse, excellent opportunities for individual contributors, good benefits.

    Cons

Big company politics, internal corporate culture clashes, too many subcultures based on acquired companies, "us versus them" and "in or out" internal politics and factions based on DirecTV pedigree versus AT&T HQ versus smaller acquired companies. Politics impact technical decisions negatively. Company business focus is so broad that they miss innovative and strategic opportunities in international markets and with startup companies.

    Advice to Management

1: Get a realistic Build versus Buy or Partner process to avoid business and technical decisions adversely swayed by politics. 2: Either support international business or kill it. Don't starve it or shrink it by a thousand cuts.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay, prestigious name. Decent work/life balance, depending on team. Some opportunities to work remotely. Nice campus with cafe and gym.

    Cons

Corporate, corporate, corporate. If you like that sort of thing, then go for it.

Lots of red tape, internal politics, and poorly trained managers.

They will lowball salary offers and increases, so be aware of your market value.

    Advice to Management

Too many layers of management. I was a manager myself, and I had THREE managers above me before the Director.

    Advice to Management

You will benefit from 30 years of service with AT&T and my 10 years with the USAF in communications.

    I worked at AT&T as a contractor

    Pros

It's a BIG company that's still trying figure out it's content-focused-future identity, however this can be at the expense of appreciating the day-to-day operational needs that "grease the wheels".

    Cons

On the down side, it has grown via constant acquisitions over time and suffers from internal process chaos.

    Advice to Management

Internal investment is needed to bring tools and processes into a current "best practices" state.
