    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were there and thats about it.

    Cons

Commission was going down down down even though revenue and growth was going up up up. They were very greedy and were cutting costs on the back end everywhere including commission on products. As commission went down, requirements for what was needed went up. Started off as sell cell phone plans, accessories, some features and have good customer service. Then it became sell cell phones, pre paid phones, iPads, bluetooth accessories, directv, home security. Like seriously?

    Advice to Management

You want to ask for more from your employees, don't lower total compensation. Only reason for lowering compesnation is if the company isn't doing good. If company is having record breaking numbers every quarter and compensation is going down you will have lots of turn-over as we did in our store when this started going down in 2010-2011.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good place to learn about technology - particularly networking - fundamentals. Good people, solid work life balance.

    Cons

Not going to get rich selling network services. Threats exist to the larger carrier model, i.e. cloud, that they're not well prepared for.

    Advice to Management

Telco services tend to compete on price due to a lack of differentiation - there's only so much you can do when you're buying someone else's tech and giving it power, and it reflects in low margins. The SaaS model blends the best of the carrier/sw business models - high margin, recurring revenues. Carriers of the future will be much better at sw development.
