    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, latest tech, good peers.

    Cons

Everything and I mean everything is quota based. You get an hourly, but after that, quota quota quota. Also they can change the commission structure every single year. Just when you get comfortable with selling and making money they change the commission structure. Also the dynamic is changing from cell phones to digital television.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to hiring from within. Also stopped short changing your employees on the commission because you want to buy the latest and greatest technology out.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    It paid the bills. Benefits

    Cons

AT&T does NOT care about their customers or employees. Dont let the size of the company fool you. They are laying off most of their USA agents and contracting the work to offshore agents from sales to customer service. No matter how long you've been with the company you're out! The customers are suffering because of this...it's sad. They are strictly a profit driven company and would do ANYTHING to make or save a dollar and TRY to stay ahead of the competition. ..But their products are subpar that's the sad but funny part. They keep adding more and more...buying up the competition but not improving what they already have...?!?!....REALLY!

    Advice to Management

Upper level...please get or together...your greed WILL BE the company's downfall

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Honestly it has to be one of the most fun careers I have ever worked in. The industry is so dynamic that you never have a dull moment. The pay is good, however, you get in what you put out, due to it being commissioned. The discounts on services helps a lot, as well as free uniforms. The trick is always trying to find a mentor to help you move into a position where you can you can do what you are most comfortable with.

    Cons

Get your degree, many people don't have it and they, like myself, get stuck at the bottom rung of management. When you look for help with tuition reimbursement it is impossible due to a lack of work life balance. As a RSM i was working nearly 55-60 hours a week. It was impossible to focus on school enough to finish. It is a do as your told arena. Immediate management is helpful but middle management has very little concept of what actually happens in the retail stores. Same goes for the operations teams. Don't expect to have time for a social life for any serious relationships.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your front line managers, and help them develop themselves. There were many of us who wanted to stay an become a broader part of the organization. However that tends to fall on stressed out middle management who are scared for their jobs. I'll now have my Masters in the next two years and i don't know if its worth it to try to come back. Foster your talent, if you don't it will leave you.
