I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall great job to get your career started as a technician in the telco world. Many overtime opportunities.

    Cons

Very difficult to move up in the company.

    Advice to Management

We, as union workers, want a fair wage for all the additional work we have in our job scope.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401k and the whole shebang. Pay is also great if you have some college credits.

    Cons

Too many layoffs and surpluses. Always thinking of bottom line aka money. Worked here for 3 years and 9 months and now their laying me off. They promised that this will be a career based job, but it wasn't. The company made promises they cannot keep.

    Advice to Management

Advice to CEO and the National Labor Relations officer of the company. Think on how to re tool your employees instead of laying them off, you basically wasted tons of money hiring technicians and then firing them after years of working for the company. That's a bottom line issue right there.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Will be working alone, manage yourself for most of the day. The job never really gets boring, there will always be new situations and environments to work in.

    Cons

Internal company processes are sometimes a head scratcher. Dealing with customers can be pretty rough, especially because the companies customer service processes are so compartmentalized, you won't be able to fix a lot of customers complaints.

    Advice to Management

Streamline processes, eliminate points of failure in employee and customer facing systems where possible. Give your technicians access to the tools you outsource to tier 2 and the Philippines.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great, pay, hours, benefits. Union job. Very good guys I worked with.

    Cons

Management is a little too hard nosed on subjects they don’t fully understand, they make company wide standards that are not applicable in all areas.

    Advice to Management

Ease up and listen to your employees about their concerns. Help them help you. Don’t be so focused on numbers and times but get back to the days where it was about the consumer! Let the techs take care of customers.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being able to supervise yourself and being out of the office.

    Cons

Pay. As a premise technician you are asked to do too much work not only for the time allowed per job but some metrics that grade your performance is out of your hands like when the customer wishes to reschedule or not available yet this affects your dispatch efficiency. Products include Uverse Video Services, Voip phone line, High Speed Internet, Direct T.V Satellite install, Fiber & Copper Drop wire from terminal poles, house wiring, everything & devices in between that touches At&T network since customers seem to think we are responsible for.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to take a look at these metrics and understand that providing excellent customer service & education of the products provided trumps making more sales & appointments. The Technician becomes the face of the company when we arrive ready to educate & install or troubleshoot issues yet I have to defend the company on every visit.
