Upper management allow for growth within a department as a manager, and reward your employees.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    It paid the bills. Benefits

    Cons

AT&T does NOT care about their customers or employees. Dont let the size of the company fool you. They are laying off most of their USA agents and contracting the work to offshore agents from sales to customer service. No matter how long you've been with the company you're out! The customers are suffering because of this...it's sad. They are strictly a profit driven company and would do ANYTHING to make or save a dollar and TRY to stay ahead of the competition. ..But their products are subpar that's the sad but funny part. They keep adding more and more...buying up the competition but not improving what they already have...?!?!....REALLY!

    Advice to Management

Upper level...please get or together...your greed WILL BE the company's downfall

    Pros

Great learning experience. Excellent benefits and employee discounts.

    Cons

Hours are sporadic. Commission structure, general absence of a life.

    Advice to Management

Micro managing is not helping. Sometimes less is more.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible with time off. Great benefits and retirement. Discounts on products are a great incentive.

    Cons

Upper management has no clue on what the linemen do. This company is run by bean counters. Constantly worried about being surplused.

    Advice to Management

Give employees the truth about their employment.

I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned an immense amount about TV streaming services in a very fast paced environment. The Development & Scrum teams were very experienced and technically proficient and learned a lot from them.

    Cons

Managed like a Start Up, very chaotic for a Fortune 500 company. Management is disconnected with the health & culture of the development team environment. Will terminate you in a heartbeat, there's absolutely no loyalty to contractors and no real opportunities to become an employee.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value the people who specialize in developing your products. Create a culture that people want to brag about where they work. Stop treating people as if they've no real value and can be easily replaced.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

great discounts w/ AT&T services (mobile, dierctv, u-verse, digital life, etc.) & other brands, decent wages without having experience, great training/knowledge that you can take anywhere

    Cons

training is great up until your ride weeks because it's a 50/50 chance you're going to learn anything and/or get any hands-on training. not enough time with senior techs to be comfortable at your job before you're out on your own. an abundance of rules, regulations & policies that will quickly get you disciplined and/or terminated. management will ride you instead of helping you.

    Advice to Management

Give a more detail introduction to what the job really consist of to possible candidates beforehand so that they know what they're really getting into. Become more of a teacher, that's willing to assists & give guidance to "rookie' techs so that they become fluent in their work & eventually level 3 & up techs, instead micro-managing, interrogating & discouraging your crew.

I worked at AT&T (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun work. We got to climb telephone poles, go in all sorts of cool houses, see some cool stuff in those houses, meet some cool people, and do some cool work(very technical if you actually understood what you were doing)

    Cons

Wasp nests on top of telephone poles, dirty houses, scary dogs, rude people, cramped crawl spaces. But WORSE OF ALL was the metric system used to evaluate our performance.

    Advice to Management

Ease up on the metrics FFS. I worked with some brilliant people that had the same problems as me and you do understand most people will cut corners stealthfully to keep their job when you have things like that. And considering we were the face of the company, I would say that's an important thing to get straightened out.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, if you're not a manager.

    Cons

Too many changes made by the seat of executives pants, then having 'oops" moments the next day over coffee.

    Advice to Management

Slow down because you are going to hit a speed bump and crash your car! What once was a good company (the former PacBell) is now a clown show.
