I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Telecommuting, Nice Internal Customers, Nice Management and Excellent Employee Discounts on Wireless and Direct TV

    Cons

Company has been cash strapped since acquiring Direct TV... causing contractor furloughs and employee lay offs in IT which happened discreetly here and there. Then the acquisition of Time Warner happened which zapped what cash flow was left. And now, at least in IT, the company is laying off staff weekly with little thought given to the brain drain happening. My team has essentially been severely impacted and will have trouble functioning and delivering for our internal customers going forward.

    Advice to Management

Use the huge tax break you received last year and raise a ton of cash this year by discontinuing the stock dividend and re-invest all of that money in your people, The stock price has been stagnant for years anyway... long term killing the outdated dividend and investing in your employees is a sound new strategy that will grow* the stock price. The net-net is that the stockholder dividends needs to go! You already discontinued the employee pensions, so doing the same to the dividend (vs asking us who remain to work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week) is what I call “equality of sacrifice”.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Horrible company. it used to be very nice. But the atmosphere became very bad once indians started moving to Management levels

    Cons

Too much of caste feelings. if you are from Chowdary community, then you are selected with interview as a formality. Lots of Managers are from this community and all of their wives are also working in the same company. While working inside AT&T, these chowdarys behave as if they don;t know each other. But actually all of them know each other. They are working as a System and fooling whole AT&T. Most of these guys are working in Wireless and Ecommerce IT side and most of them are playing the roles of Director and VP etc. Their wives don;t work and team was expected to take their load.

    Advice to Management

Most of the chowdarys joined AT&T in 2001 with fake experience. Lots of fraud was done by them using vendors like Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL, Cognizant etc. These chowdarys are acting as a System and are not allowing anyone to get into higher positions.

I worked at AT&T as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The pay was pretty good.

    Cons

This is one of the worst places I ever worked. They were always looking for reason to get rid of somebody. They would fire people at the drop of a hat. No ride up, no coaching, no warning, they were just far you.

    Advice to Management

If you want your customers to have a good technical support experiences, you need to really consider how you treat your technical support staff.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I would say the biggest pros we have here at AT&T are the benefits, compensation, leadership, and the amount of opportunities that are given for you to take advantage of. The diversity within the company, tells me that we are a company that leads pride, and a goal of never ending success.

    Cons

Although, sometimes the hours are not what you want, because the shifts are based on seniority, the more you work and the harder you work, the hours honestly don't mean a whole lot when you are making the money you need.

    Advice to Management

Any advice I could give to management is to always be sure that we are more of a coach. Always help someone turn into a leader when they think they couldn't be one. Push someone past their limits to succeed, but don't push them away. Don't just manage....LEAD!
