I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Met some amazing people who I call friends.

    Cons

Zero work life balance. If your child is in the hospital, senior management will encourage you to resign because your not taking your job seriously. Employees are encouraged to be highly unethical in their sales practices to inflate numbers. If you are an honest leader or sales person, go to a different company. ATT doesn’t want you. To many restructures, re-.org, layoffs. High cost acquisitions and every quarter...

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Initial salary was $105K working in IT operations as a sysadmin. My final salary was $185K plus a ~$30K bonus yearly working as an IT Architect for Donovan. I was a full time teleworker which allowed me to travel and work from some of the most beautiful places on this planet. About 1/3 of my time was allocated to training and obtaining certification. The remainder was evaluating equipment and determining the standards...

    Cons

The present environment is creating a culture of anxiety and fear, fear of losing your job. Fear of not knowing what will happen. This is unsustainable, decreases productivity. The remaining workers will eventually burn out.

    Advice to Management

Core issue is that those responsible for carrying out an initiative are also responsible for reporting the status of the initiative. For that reason even when an initiative is an abysmal failure, it will be spun as a success. Examples are, the outsourcing of code development and IT helpdesk. Let's get real; an american full-time employee is emotionally invested in the success of at&t. A contractor in India does...

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Discount on phone plans - You definitely make a lot of friends and are able to network - My location had great people and management - Uniform allotment given twice a year - Union - There are opportunities to move up if you're a top seller

    Cons

    - Doesn't value employees overall - Too sales driven; lots of "shady" practices - Too much outsourcing - Disconnect between stores and customer care on the phone

    Advice to Management

Direct management was great. Upper, upper management doesn't see the bigger picture of making the company steadily grow, rather focuses too much on pleasing shareholders right away.
