I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Very Ethical Company. Extremely diverse and inclusive. Exciting time for technological advances. Provides a service that the public devours.

    Cons

Raises are low, process slows down results, top heavy and management is out of touch with what is happening on the front line: Often the two are not aligned.

    Advice to Management

Inquire to the front line as to the practices in the field. Do they align with the strategies

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Reasonable compensation, benefits and paid time off

    Cons

Legacy company with continuous reorganization and downsizing that has become "too big" through acquisition/mergers incurring huge debt load. Very difficult to accomplish objectives with dependent groups having a constant lack of resources/personnel to meet corporate goals. Must be in "hub city" (only a handful in the US) locations to have any career advancement opportunities.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Good Pay and Benefits for all

    Cons

Seems like organizations are always in a state of flux. Reorgs after reorgs are the norm. At this time, one does not want to be associated with any legacy copper technology. Result of being attached to a legacy technology is getting laid-off

    Advice to Management

Pull your head out and quiet blowing smoke to all the employees. Stand UP, Talk Straight, and Follow Through... Quite painting a picture of butterflies and unicorns and tall the troops the real story

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, salary, and opportunities for young people to gain valuable experience that you can take it elsewhere for higher compensation. Good promotion opportunities if you can relocate, though relocation $ is rarely offered.

    Cons

Long hours, frequent surplus conditions, and now must live in one of a few cities referred to as collaboration zones unless you are selling or installing services locally. Upper management talks good culture, but in the last 3 years it is not consistently practiced so message is lost as it trickles down.

    Advice to Management

Plan better to avoid 35%+ reductions in numerous organizations simultaneously. Control debt ratio. Surplus management not performing instead of those with stellar performance who don't live in the most desired geographical area when that specific position can be done from anywhere due to the nature of it. Assure the right middle management leaders are in place.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Some positions offered good work/life balance and opportunity to telecommute.

    Cons

Under constant threat of lay-off. Lucky you have a job mentality. Every project comes in as an expedite. Escalating constantly to the point it doesn’t mean anything because everything is escalated.

    Advice to Management

Promote area managers from within the organization so they can actually support their subordinates and understand the complexities of various projects.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Depends on the organization, but generally flexible working hours and opportunity to work from home was the biggest benefit. Standard benefits: 401k, Vacation, Healthcare Free online training classes are available, but must fit it in with the other mandatory classes.

    Cons

Company layoffs since I started in 2011. Good in some ways, but not much opportunity to move up or into other departments. Lot's of political fighting between organizations trying to stay relevant. Yearly funding reduction which impacts your projects. Which then impacts your performance.

    Advice to Management

Middle management more worried about not looking bad to their VPs, vs developing employees. Also, often rotation at the director level with managers who not experience in projects.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Good training but mostly online. Great directv cell phone benefits. There are smart people there.

    Cons

Layoffs once to twice a year has become the norm. Management comes up with new operating initiatives/philosophies every couple of years so you're chasing after the new thing. Top management want you to be faster but yet there are a lot of red tapes you have to deal with.

    Advice to Management

If you want us to be faster, please help with the red tapes.
