I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of work in many areas

    Cons

Don't trust management, its all about saving a dime. Constantly looking to cut people and outsource to India and other countries. A US company in name only. Constantly reducing headcount, the latest is get rid of people that have more than 10 years so they cap their retirement plan.BEWARE

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay was decent, my team was some of the best talent in the industry bar none. Middle Management is close enough to the rest of us to care. Working from home is a huge benefit!

    Cons

Can be very long hours, but the teleworking option offsets that and allows you to maintain a healthy work life balance. Every 6 months or so, your job will be in jeopardy of outsourcing. My manager quit when he was forced to reduce his team of 40 down to 20. My replacement manager was "surplussed" 2 times in the last year. Stability is virtually non-existent.

    Advice to Management

If you don't plan to retain your internal staff, please don't lead them to believe they have a chance. The latest offshoring effort resulted in letting go of 80% of the people released from their current positions. That sends a clear message, you care more about making a buck for the share-holders than you do about American Jobs. Enjoy your shiny new Lamborghini. I'm not sure of Randalls knowledge or involvement,...

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good, flexible on telecommuting something that make work life balance fantastic, lots of opportunity to be train in management and new technologies.

    Cons

Overseas contracting is killing US jobs. Promotions is not longer a work know by leadership. Management focused too much on metrics.

    Advice to Management

Listen and reward employees. Annual reviews should be taking more seriously. Too much training but a few opportunities to move into.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great training, great co-workers, flexible schedule, great benefits. Network operations is casual dress, meaning jeans everyday.

    Cons

Some divisions seem to have a more "old school" mentality toward dress and flexible schedules, but all indications from up the ladder are that the company as a whole is moving toward remote work and more forward thinking policies. Local office is not the most up to date.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving forward and focus on attracting and keeping young talent.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Competitive salaries, good medical coverage and good working conditions. Telecommuting is allowed for some IT positions. Generally very good people to work with, including upper management. They are quite willing to accommodate special requests regarding working hours, or assignments once you have proven your competence and effectiveness.

    Cons

The primary problem with AT&T IT Operations is how specialized and fragmented the organization has become in recent years. In trying to find the most efficient model, there have been multiple restructuring efforts that have resulted in the failure of internal communications and loss knowledge of physical systems and processes. This has prevented timely equipment repairs and increased costs significantly.

    Advice to Management

Be more cautious when making major changes in how the business operates. Encourage suggestions for improvements from front line employees and listen to feedback regarding changes before they are implemented.

    Pros

higher than average salary for entry level IT positions good benefits

    Cons

As with any large corporation really depends on the team you work with and most of all your managers. almost zero career opportunities - you can easily get stuck at the same position for 5+ years with no salary increase
