I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Payment is fair to good, including overtime. Benefits are decent but health-care premiums are expensive. Workload is manageable.

    Cons

Benefits have gotten worse year after year. Hard to move up / no raises. No training or incentive to improve.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within instead of hiring outsiders.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good company. Hard working employees. Free satellite service at home for employees. Nice gym, clean locker rooms and showers with friendly staff

    Cons

After take over by AT&T in July 2015, there are daily notices of shuffling and re-orgs trying to reduce duplicity. Uncertain future.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I was very happy here, worked with very smart people, built a great network of colleagues and collaborators and overall had a great experience. Freedom to work in cool projects and potential to learn and develop new skills. Opportunity to work in exciting projects and to make an impact within your group or org. Great work life balances, but... [see Cons]

    Cons

Research in general is taking a bit hit over the last couple of years due to the company change in direction. I agree with the new company direction, and agree that research should not be like it was in the 50s anymore. However, while research is crunched and it is close to impossible to get approvals to give talks and publish at scientific conferences, AT&T is constantly investing, sponsoring and giving keynotes at scientific...

    Advice to Management

Fasten your seat-belt. The direction of the company and major investments are definitively the right ones, but they come with side effects and chance of a bit of turbulence.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I was blessed to work with some of the finest minds in software development and was challenged in all the best ways. I devoted myself to improving my skills and volunteered for every new opportunity to grow professionally. I received some of the best training money cannot buy.

    Cons

After 14 years with the company and a stellar year by any measure, my entire department was outsourced to India. I was expected to spend my last days training my replacement. There is no sense of loyalty to employees. The same day I received my pink slip, AT&T slathered their logo all over Dallas Stadium. They have all the money in the world to advertise like that, but they cut an entire department so the executives could...

I have been working at AT&T for less than a year

    Pros

Cutting-edge television distribution. Some reflected glory working on special events. Some very smart people to work with/learn from. Good location for west-side residents. Engineering fundamentals are solid. Good benefits.

    Cons

Pays below industry average. Very bureaucratic. Lots of CYA instead of innovation. Internet is killing satellite TV. They don't actually make anything.

    Advice to Management

Fix that absolutely god-awful hiring portal thing called Taleo. It is loose stool water of the worst kind. A complete waste of time and energy. Your staff recruiters are worse than useless.
