I have been working at AT&T (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is very engaged to new talent they have acquired. Training is straight forward and well constructed to get newcomers up to speed. Tasks are assigned from background and area of interests. Working there forces you out of your comfort zone and makes you learn new skills.

    Cons

Lots of repetitive tasks that are time consuming. Based on where you are working, some of the work areas are out of date and need to be upgraded.

I have been working at AT&T for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company is huge. It has stake in all sorts of roles ranging from engineering to finance and everything in between. AT&T allows one to be creative within their role and at least on paper, encourages innovation. The culture is inviting and people are willing to teach and learn from each other. People who work here are very competent and work hard. It is a corporate environment (well, the large majority of "management"...

    Cons

There is a lot of politics at play at senior levels. A lot of the older, senior management has seen legacy AT&T transform into the new AT&T, but haven't taken the actual actions to make that transformation themselves. The company moves extremely slowly. Although people know AT&T's goals, it's still a 8-5 job for many people without the burning passion for technology that is so essential for a company like AT&T. With such...

    Advice to Management

Bring younger, more innovative minds to leadership positions. It's not the 80s anymore. Younger minds understand the technology from a user standpoint well and can make an impact. If management expects to compete with the top tech companies, the pay (although is very good for a corporation) should be higher for the best engineers. Shrink the gap between levels - invest more in people rather than politics. For interns,...

    I worked at AT&T

    Pros

    It was a fun environment.

    Cons

High pressure tactics are used to get your sales.

    Advice to Management

Provide focus and leadership not a do or die approach. Clean up the store environment and get ride of the sales reps that aren't getting better.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awards, rewards, positive when meeting expectations. Thorough training process and continued training as you further your career. Career growth is possible. Most customer experiences are positive.

    Cons

High stress environment, unrealistic goals, not understanding when it comes to illness or short term health problems. Also, expect a lot of overtime. Customers who do not understand certain policies can leave negative feedback that affects your work life and the store, even if they enjoyed the interaction with you.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your staff and how hard they work for you. Don't view them as expendable and try to find fun and realistic ways to help your staff reach their goals. Micromanaging is not the answer, leading is.
