I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Competitive salary (but not great), some of the people, training opportunities (on your own time), employee discounts.

    Cons

Bureaucracy, constant promotions of "favorites", no recognition for consistent superior performance if not a "favorite", forced ranking system, frequent outsourcing so little system knowledge remains, constant layoffs so little experience remains, removal of telecommuting benefit (despite initially pitching it as a win/win (with supporting metrics one year later proving it was a win/win) when initially rolled out by... Exec Management), inconsistent messaging (we all need to be co-located unless your team was outsourced or you work on "legacy" applications - and then you need to be in an office even if you are the only person on your team in that office), no real delegation (less and less each year), required long hours including weekends (without compensation).

    Advice to Management

Remember the days when employees were recognized to be your greatest resource. Stop treating people as though they can all be replaced without any pain. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Reward people for the job they do without a forced ranking system. Promote people that have been in position for years, performed well and want opportunities - REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY KNOW OR DON'T KNOW. At the... very least, close the loop on job applications (I nominated for dozens of jobs and only heard back on three or four of them).

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

AT&T is a great, diverse company to work for with wonderful benefits, continued educational encouragement, growth opportunities, great pay with bonuses, and excellent future focused vision. AT&T has a long history of over 100 years of high productivity and fosters creativity, innovation, and community. I would recommend bringing your talents to this company but be ready to work in a fast paste, highly... competitive environment with very smart people.

    Cons

With AT&T being a 100+ year old company it has a seasoned work force in many departments. This doesn't always lend itself well to younger audiences who can feel intimidate working along side co-workers with 25+ years of service, or can't relate to people with such a generational gap. Although AT&T is very diverse in race, sex, culture, religion and nationality, it could improve in the age diversity... department. Younger employees have expressed feeling generationally isolated in specific departments or can't fit in to the office culture. AT&T is working to address this issue with a robust internship program and hires from this pool a lot of new talent. So hopefully over the next 2-3 years AT&T will begin to turn this around, but overall is still a great company to work for.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

AT&T is going through a massive transformation in its identity and the relationship it has with its customers. Managers and leaders throughout the company are working on new and better ways to do things. This is a great opportunity for those with the energy and determination to fight the status quo and challenge conventional wisdom. In my business unit, creativity is encouraged and valued. Yes, it is... challenging, but we don't have the choice to stand still. Pros of working at AT&T: * Above average comp plan (salary, bonuses, benefits) * Challenging environment * Working under a strong leadership team * Emphasis on collaboration

    Advice to Management

    * Always be learning * Cultivate your professional network to keep it healthy and growing * Take advantage of each opportunity to listen to leadership explain what they think is important
