I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

AT&T gives you many learning opportunities and has contracts with many services to provide training (like LinkedIn and Udemy) as well as college courses and tuition assistance. I recommend everyone take full advantage of all the opportunities available. They also have good benefits and great people.

    Cons

Job security is not what it used to be. They are contracting out their IT and cloud storage and constantly reorganizing meaning you have to always be looking to move and get in with the next group.

    Advice to Management

I've never been a fan of contracting out IT functions like app development because development usually takes twice as long and you pay for ongoing maintenance when you have highly qualified developers that know the business and can develop applications in a shorter amount of time with fewer problems because they know what is needed.

The bonus system pushes techs too hard and the is almost impossible to use sick leave without getting into trouble with management.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Getting to work on new and exciting technology. Good Benefits. Good Pay. Work Life Balance in most cases.

    Cons

Lack of direction from management and the employees have little trust in management. Many people that I knew where just waiting on an opportunity to leave the organization.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to buy technology. Reinvest in your current workforce not only by providing them with access to training, but with a direction on where and how they can use the training that they obtain.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Mostly good people, overall good benefits, lots of challenging projects that are consumer facing to millions of customers.

    Cons

Its a large enterprise, so by the senior management level you are definitely treated like a number. Lots of corporate mandatory training that is basically useless time waster. Also in a salaried position you are considered management and have to take classes every few years to cover unionized worker jobs in case of a strike (and potentially have to called up to cover during a strike). Health care coverage benefit was...

    Advice to Management

You are not going to attract and maintain senior developer talent by micromanaging burn down rates daily during sprints and forcing people to always work from the office.
