I have been working at AVANIR Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

This company is as cutting edge as they come, utilizing the latest technologies and not scrimping on things the employees need to get the job done. Benefits are above average and lots of training for employees and managers to expand our skills. Employees are valued and it shows.

    Cons

Lots of growth, so things move pretty fast. Be prepared to move just as fast

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

I worked at AVANIR Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Some of the people are great, some aren't, it's a mixed bag. The office is located in a nicer part of Aliso Viejo.

    Cons

HR leadership is awful, very demeaning, discouraging, work you to the ground. There is a lack of communication, everything is a secret. Everyone walks around with blinders on. They want you to keep your head down, do the work, don't ask any questions.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with human decency and honesty.

I worked at AVANIR Pharmaceuticals (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and they try to do well by employees with 401k

    Cons

The HR department is clueless. They don't recognize the good people in the company and have got rid of great workers. They could care less about people, your just as good as your numbers a week ago. Selling off label is the standard at this company.

    Advice to Management

You need to clean house on the director level. Jen and Kevin are truly idiots. Denise is fake as the day is long.

    Pros

Competitive, Innovative, Talented team, Passionate, & Driven

    Cons

    Top heavy
Executives/Management tends to make a lot of empty promises
    Politics!
The Executive team seems more concerned with keeping secrets and lining their own pockets instead of providing proper support and growth for their team that helped them get there!

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the hard workers you have, offer internal promotions for those that deserve it, pay people what they are worth, as well as the promised incentives before the acquisition. Don't wait for burn out, be proactive instead of reactive. How many great contributors have to walk before you get the point?

    Pros

Management is very transparent from the c-suite down to middle managers. People here are willing to roll up their sleeves to get the work done. Lots of focus is placed on developing employees.

    Cons

Some processes are outdated and tedious. Lots of administrative work that should be automated. However the company is open to change.

    Advice to Management

Focus on making processes more efficient.

    Pros

Pay,company car, phone, iPad and they give you tons of cool free stuff. Promotions we said to happen after 18 months in entry level postions so we will see.

    Cons

selling a drug nobody wants or even believes exists. Job stability is always in the back of your mind since the buyout. Very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Stay consistent on how you want things conducted. Be upfront about whats going on with the future of the company.

    Pros

Compensation was okay and the team was very friendly. Late hours are rare

I worked at AVANIR Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The senior management team are some of the highest quality people you will ever meet and are easy to get along with. The people in general are very high quality which is a testament to their HR recruiting practices.

    Cons

The culture and work/life balance is horrible. Everyone does the job of 3 or more people and if you aren't on call 24/7, you're not doing your job. The culture they are trying to develop echos this sentiment. This is the only job I've had where I felt guilty taking a full 60 minute lunch and taking time off for vacation.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to spread the workload out and have defined job functions that don't overburden employees so they can have their own lives outside of work.
