I worked at AVL Powertrain Engineering Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None that I can think of. Maybe someone from AVL management can help me to find one of the pros, cause in reality there are none.

    Cons

No doubt AVL is one of the worst Company in the area. Ethically challenged, discriminative and exploiting their workers. Most of their managers are pretty dumb as hell.

    Pros

    Good compensation, and benefits package

    Cons

Sometimes their relationships with customers can be disorganized. It is consulting and there isn't a great training program for newer engineers. Expect to be lost for a while when first starting with them.

I have been working at AVL Powertrain Engineering Inc. as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The past week has been an extremely delightful experience working for AVL in Plymouth, Michigan. There professionalism is rare, the way the employees are treated with respect and gratitude seems to create a comfortable work environment. Each project I was a part of was done with high quality standards and the attention to detail resulted in superior product.

    Cons

Trying to keep up with my Co-workers on every aspect from production pace to strict specifications and overall quality of the work being performed was challenging.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing because I didn't hear even the slightest complaint about anything, I witnessed employees with a desire to produce superior product. AVL should be an example of how to operate a company.

I have been working at AVL Powertrain Engineering Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of very capable people organized into strong teams at AVL. Global cooperation between global locations is also very good.

    Cons

There is very often not enough transparency in the workings of upper management. Support from HR and IT, two key departments, can also be improved.

    Advice to Management

    Take care of your people

    Pros

Great work environment and awesome co-workers.

    Cons

The HR department lacks work ethics. They are not professional, gossip, and nobody likes them. They will get your fired if they don't like you.

    Advice to Management

First HR and hire men to do the job.

I have been working at AVL Powertrain Engineering Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small, very competent group of engineers
Management is very easy to access

    Cons

Limited opportunities for growth. There is one guy at the top here in the US, about 10-15 people below him, and about 200 people below that. The opportunities to move up in the company are very limited.

    Advice to Management

Provide a more clear picture of growth opportunities and aid in career growth

    Pros

Pay is above market range and they produce a good quality product.

    Cons

Lots of rumors are spread and they are typically started by upper management. The HR department is the last place you would want to go for assistance as they participate in spreading rumors as well.

    Advice to Management

    Hire a new HR team.

    Pros

Friendly co workers, bagels delivered Tuesday and Thursday. Decent salary.

    Cons

    No leadership from senior management.
Lack of processes and documentation - everything is done very inefficiency. Think TPS reports.
I've seen several violations of ethics, especially in the HR department. Company officers turn head the other way.
Management has a very "do this job or I'll get someone else" style.
