I worked at Abacus Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The managers at the remote work centers make the jobs palatable. Payroll is on time. Excellent training and education benefits.

    Cons

The corporate office is completely oblivious to the work centers in remote locations. Policies are vague and behind the times. They are so worried about being sued that it is nearly impossible to remove poor performers from the job.

    Advice to Management

The corporate office needs to bring in fresh talent to reinvigorate the company. Engage with remote locations all the time, not just when they are winning awards. Your a people services company. People are your asset. Treat them as such.

I have been working at Abacus Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours. not a lot of bureaucracy like other companies

    Cons

feel like we're just here to provide the CEO with a new house! Mgmt has no clue about this industry. CEO has no clue - and doesn't care to - about this industry. no leadership; no delegation of authority.

    Advice to Management

get rid of the dead wood that are consistently under-performing or non-performing!!

Upper Mgt. needs to listen more to lower Mgt.

I have been working at Abacus Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company tries to do right by their employees. Sometimes the spread out nature of government contract work makes it difficult, but they have great leadership that shows they try and care about the employees. Work life balance was easy and expected with Abacus. Generally tried to promote from within. Supportive environment with training available.

    Cons

Unfortunately with government contracts, the contract comes to an end.

    Advice to Management

Take the management changes from KSC and apply the lessons elsewhere. It really turned into a great place to work because of the management team, from PM down to line level.

I worked at Abacus Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

On-job training courses (See Con's below).

    Cons

On-job training courses. 1) They have a list of courses, and tried to force me to sign the paper that said I would pay them back $1000 if I left the company within a year of taking any of these training. 2) Their list had absolutely no courses that related to my skillset, my job, or my career path. They didn't care, they still wanted me to sign the paper. 3) I was blatantly told that I had to sign up because they needed the numbers to get a new contract (I didn't sign up as there was no benefit to me). 4) They insist these courses must be done in my own time and not at work. They these courses are specifically for my job then they should be done at work on work time. If I want to do a course for my own personal education then that should be done in my own time.

The HR department is the most unprofessional I have ever worked with. They don't respond to emails or phone calls. They do not walk you through any processes and you do not know what to expect.

No room for lateral or upper wards growth.

    Advice to Management

Stop making people feel so small and forcing to do something that has no benefit to them or you outside of your numbers.

To HR: Usually talking and dealing with the situation at hand to the friendliest and best ability is better then ending up with a bad review and the consideration of a lawyer because of not bothering to return phone calls or emails.

If these courses are specifically for my job then they should be done at work on work time.

I have been working at Abacus Technology full-time

    Pros

Liberal flex time for working hours. That's it.

    Cons

This company exists to siphon money out of government contracts. The salary offered is sub-standard. The benefits package is sub-standard. There are no opportunities for any kind of advancement. No promotions, no merit raises, no bonuses. No training provided unless you are willing to pay them back for it.

    Advice to Management

There is NO contact with anyone in upper management. Employees are just bodies that they are able to bill the government for.

    Pros

Good salary, flexible hours, great co-workers.

    Cons

Not so good benefits, high deductibles kill you. Terrible management. Several issues reported to management and no actions ever taken. Management unfamiliar with their own policies and labor laws/regulations.

    Advice to Management

Training. Education and certifications should be required for management. Management should not be given the position just because of their seniority at company, these positions should only be for qualified personnel.
