I worked at AbbVie full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company spin-off company out of Abbott is on the up and up. Every year that I worked there is was just a better company year after year. By this I mean both financially and the development of the companies culture. I worked there for 3 years and 7 months. Company has pension plan and all of the other perks you would expect.

    Cons

Company could benefit a bit more by listening from the bottom-up. The company is fairly new but has the privilege of a world of experience.

I have been working at AbbVie full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Everyone is very respectful of your time and value to the company
-No cut-throat/backstabbing attitude here (at least that I've seen so far)
-Humira is doing well, so job stability is good
    -Benefits are remarkable
    -Company ethics are good
-Diversity and inclusion are promoted as work culture values

    Cons

-SO dreadfully far from Chicago itself. Expect 1-1.5 hour commute each way if you live in Chicago or Evanston
    -Slow upward movement

    Advice to Management

Allow scientists to be more flexible about working from home. Some of us top talent would like to live in the city.

I have been working at AbbVie full-time

    Pros

Pay, benefits, flexible work arrangements, challenging work

    Cons

Politics are intense. Cliques and factions are all over. Trying to figure out the "unwritten rules" can be challenging for new employees.

    Advice to Management

Push decisions down and enable a safe to speak up environment, where people can share innovative thinking and express concerns without fear of retaliation. Get senior leaders out of the suite to get to know employees.

I worked at AbbVie full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Increase to 4 weeks vacation after 3 years
    Decent salary and good bonus
Some great people to work with

    Cons

    Field employees are considered non-essential.
Promotion mechanism and timeline not shared and are very nebulous, you have to find out yourself.
Lots of lip service paid to opportunities for development when you are hired, but you realize after awhile that this is definitely not the case.
Not enough useful resources for field teams, but lots of useless ones.
Complicated reporting structure - report through 2 different chains, which can cause conflicts.

    Advice to Management

Don't ignore your team member's development goals, even if you're busy.
