Great benefits, and work life balance. Generous PTO to start off with, 3 weeks plus 3 additional days off, but 10 years before you get an extra weeks vacation.
Cons
Not every dept. is managed equally. Some departments are very flexible with allowing employees work life balance and others are not. Little to no career advancement opportunities, even employees with experience and not give opportunities to interview for positions. They would rather hire outside talent than grow their internal talent. Lack of decent merit increases, most of the increase goes to top management, rather than employees that are producing results. Lots of biased favoritism in the review and merit increase process, employees are stake ranked against each other. HR seems to do nothing about this. Also asked to take on more responsibility, had a title change, with increased responsibility with no increase in salary. Worked with manager for a market adjustment, and it was not made a priority, when I followed up with the managing director, my questions were rudely dismissed. Not all areas of the company are like this, but it was my experience.

Pros
Great money supplied a uniform for labs which you can keep.we didn't get any of the benefits though because of contracts
Cons
Worst place I have ever worked in my life the most toxic environment I've ever been in... Its robots they want not people. Didn't meet a single person in there that liked their job. Shid work was horrific and so hard on the body. Fired people for little or nothing. Run by narcissistic men. Do yourself a favour... Avoid the PTSD stay far far away.

Opportunities to develop professionally Smart colleagues Good products and pipeline Great benefits Good managers (in my experience)
Cons
No work-life balance in some roles; expect to work all nights and weekends Leadership requests are at times academic exercises, requiring significant time and little application to the business Promotions not equitably given; political and favoritism Expects employees to come in office during COVID pandemic

Your experience is dependent on the department you work
Dec 15, 2019 - Scientist in Worcester, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Benefits are quite impressive, including pension. The building is evolving and modernizing. There are several long-term employees who started at Abbott who stayed on when Abbvie became independent. The level of science is high, resulting in getting much needed products to patients. Very diverse work force and many opportunities for all. Salaries align with fair market value in the state.
Cons
It depends on what group you are in to determine the workload that is expected of you. Other reviews claim a good work/life balance while my experience and that of colleagues proves otherwise. Working at home after hours and weekends is necessary to meet deadlines. I heard of at least one employee who routinely stays until 1:00 AM to complete their work while another co-worker claimed they are working much harder than they did in a academic job, which are notoriously demanding. Scientists conduct experiments but don't have time to document them in the electronic notebook. The salary is good but you will work for it at the expense of personal time.

Awful culture with no work/life balance

Competitive pay/benefits, low cost of living in North Chicago
Cons
People are generally out to get you here. They’re looking for ways to replace you with their friends. My manager was extremely rude. The culture here stresses work life balance because they don’t have that at all yet. It takes a toll on your personal life.
