    Pros

People are great, company gives you opportunities to learn. I loved my job until I was outsourced. Great Benefits

    Cons

The company keeps replacing older employees with foreign workers here and in India.
I worked there for 14 years then I was told I had 2 months to train my replacement in India.
Then I was to be let go. This story has been repeated thousand of times in 2014. It will continue into 2015
with the layoffs. Dr. Abbott must be rolling over in his grave, he was a great people person.

    Advice to Management

Do not leave all your people. Employees care about Abbott. Consultants are there for a time then they
move on. Abbott will soon be nothing but a shell.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Short term job until you are eliminated - gives you a chance to polish your resume, gain experience and look for a more rewarding job

    Cons

Abbott has been shedding IT personnel for years and outsourcing their jobs starting with those with the most pension seniority.
Expect pensions to be phased out.
Management is totally focused on their bonuses which are multiples of their salaries.
Projects never fail (see bonus above).
Statistics are massaged to provide the desired results (see bonus above).
The work environment is toxic as you never know from week to week whether or not you will have a job.
Creativity is either plagiarized to killed
Managers are abusive - they scream in your face that you're lucky to have a job and you had better fall in line
Manager/Employee affairs are blatant - not that we care what you're doing just hold up your end of the job.
The IT attitude towards women is mysogynistic, particularly, but not exclusively, from Indians and Muslims; women are definitely the 76% in Abbott IT.

    Advice to Management

Grow a backbone, acquire a moral compass

    Pros

Abbott pays people well because it has learned people will leave quickly if they don't. One of the few companies that still offers a pension plan.

    Cons

Management is very ignorant and out of touch. Rely on consulting "experts" and "outsourcing partners" to make decisions for them.

    Advice to Management

you get what you pay for.
