I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free parking, flexible working, good training nice canteen. It's a bit secluded but the office is really nice. Good holiday and great incentives for childcare etc

    Cons

If they don't like you you'll get ignored, teachers pets seem to progress. There's an obvious hierarchy in this place and it's not great.

    Advice to Management

Listen to juniors experience of working for you.

    Pros

a good pension scheeme and shares good healthcare good people in production as in operator level

    Cons

a very badly managed company where a lot of bullying goes on from pls and team managers this is also backed up from senior management who seem to encourage it. I worked for this company for 10 years and was sacked for having mental illness problems at the time i needed help I was pushed out and bullied I have since found a better job and starting to rebuild my life

    Advice to Management

when you bully people just remember that could be you one day . I think that the management need to take a good look at the way they behave get some people skills and start being honest not lying to cover there own backs

    Pros

Good benefits. Friendly place to work. Lots of interesting projects. If your face fits you'll do well. Final salary pension

    Cons

After proving time and again to be the most compliant site in the diagnostic devision. The senior management decided to close the Dartford site. The manufacturing was transferred to the US where the senior managers are based! Not a care given to all those who had done so much for them.

    Advice to Management

    Stop being self serving

    Pros

Brilliant! lovely group of people, nice office building good benefits etc. They even had an ice cream van come and give out free ice cream! Would love to stay here but my division has been acquired by another company and I will be redundant shortly.

    Cons

Nothing immediately comes to mind. Car park could get very full.

    Advice to Management

    Carry on!

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great products, passionate people, quality management and processes very good.
Not bad pay higher up, not good lower down. Good healthcare.

    Cons

Bullying, and people in Senior positions because of who they know regardless of being completely incompetent, even in the most basic skills. HR not trusted at all by employees. Don't complain because they will stitch you up.

Poor development of less senior employees. Lucky of you go on one training course in 5 years.

Mass Abbott redundancies of long term employees, and redundancy pay only statutory minimum. So for example 20 years service will only give you a couple of thousand pounds. HR can be very sinister and intimidating.

Can be very cliquey and people can be excluded and minorities discriminated against. Senior management will often support this discrimination.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking the credit for the work of others. make sure that people who are promoted are competent e.g. they can operate a computer, rather than promoting them because they have been there for years and you know them.

Stay in touch with your staff to know what is really going on, don't just take the word of those who you have promoted as they may be telling you lies.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time

    Pros

Has a final salary pension scheme , has a company car . That's about it.

    Cons

Where to start ?! Middle managers totally uninterested in you. Flat structure. No chance of promotion. Constantly trying to sell their products and don't have engineers to back it up. You get to work late any evening for free and even weekends for no money- manager trying to save money.
Lack of resources in IT, HR, basically every area is understaffed and over worked.
Enjoy having your heart attack boys!!!

    Advice to Management

Do "team work", stop having useless conf calls, give people the holidays they ask for without a fight, support your field engineers as they are customer facing

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pension, but you will be stressed out and dead before you can draw it. There were lots of pros when first joining. But they soon stop them once you are tied in

    Cons

No mentoring. Managers & Directors use bullyboy tactics. No career progression. Work evenings for free. Management have no idea how to walk the floor.
UK NHS is a shambles behind the curtain. God help us.

    Advice to Management

Walk the floor. Respond to emails. Respond to your staff with even a no or I will give you an answer by such a date. Lack of communication is no excuse.
Help the staff. Keep them engaged. Listen to them. Discussions are a two way street. Monthly meets are not a chance to push statistics and reports. Meet the staff and listen. Disengaged middle managers are killing field service. Very much who you know and how much of a yes man/woman you are.

I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very good working enviroment and very strong team spirit.
Lots of internal opportunities with temporary assignations abroad as critical professional experiences.
Very interesting professional challenges and excellent managerial style based on managers that give you support, ownership and visibility at the same time.

    Cons

The company moves and changes really fast and people are usually quite busy because of the constant need to be updated.

    Advice to Management

Keep up just as you are!
