I have been working at Abbott Point of Care full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pension Profit Sharing Plan People Professional development courses GREAT Healthcare benefits

    Cons

No new products in 3 years since I’ve been here. Stuck in the “we’ve always done it this way” thought process. This company has good intentions, but stuck in a declining point of care market with no new products. Far from innovating and staying ahead of the curve. Sales reps stay for 18-24 months and leave due to the non-competitive compensation plan, lack of new products, and micro-management. Abbott divisions... have blinders on, so little to no possibility that you’re going to be able to transfer to another division.

    Advice to Management

Allow your sales force time to actually sell rather than have them over-analyze, over-report, and under-perform. Fix the retention problem.

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are very good people still there, even after mass exodus of highly talented employees over the last 2 years

    Cons

The upper management continuously acknowledges the significant issues with morale, waning confidence in company, regressing compensation, training deficiencies, and lack of upper mobility confidence. They promise change and improvements in order to placate the masses, but things stay the same or get worse. More good people are continuing to leave because the faith is gone. Names on office doors can change- but... nothing else does. Employees are making less money while tasked with more, opportunities for advancement are earmarked for upper management's friends while truly talented people are not given opportunity. Employees have been pushed out when they have raised concerns or "challenged" upper management, not allowed to transfer to other divisions because of spite, targeted because of raising concerns, or threatened termination/terminated for reasons that do not seem ethical and seem manufactured. People are fearful of retaliation when bringing up concerns because they have seen first hand what the culture is. The terms "keep your head down" and "don't call attention" are used way to often -when they should be influenced instead to speak up and share ideas. "targeting" has been seen and witnessed way too often and it is a shame that this is being communicated to both new and tenured employees. This used to be a company that people never wanted to leave and coveted to be able to work for. The current culture is one of fear, uneasiness, and doubt.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the reason this company exists- to change and improve lives. The passion and pride that was once overflowing is now gone. When the passion and trust is gone, the employees can not keep up the facade for the outside people looking in.

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care

    Pros

The pay and the benefits. Nothing else.

    Cons

Terrible work-life balance in a high pressure, cut throat, backstabbing environment with a primary focus on the numbers. Leadership is disconnected and constantly changing, with no evident succession planning or mentoring. Horrible culture with minimal collaboration, very high turnover, and a low overall morale. This is neither a good place to work, nor is it a good place to stay.

    Advice to Management

This is a very profitable company that has very high expectations from their employees. Unfortunately, the company fails to realize that their employees, particularly new hires, will have expectations of their own that the company not only fails to meet, but doesn’t seem to care about meeting. It is very important for a company this large to present itself as a high-quality place to work instead of simply... presenting the illusion that it is. There are many opportunities for improvement, but also a lot of pessimism that these opportunities will ever be realized.

I worked at Abbott Point of Care full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits are very good, 401k, pension, medical dental eye. Company car etc. wish I could tell you more good, but benefits are it.

    Cons

Micro managed. Management by intimidation. High turnover. Ego maniacs in leadership roles. Abbott will sell this unit. Also, competing against their own diagnostic division. Did I mention the worst culture of any company of have worked for over 25 years.

    Advice to Management

Humble yourself and listen to your successful reps. The place is full of yes men. Stop running good people out of the company.

I worked at Abbott Point of Care full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As part fo the Abbott family, you have the advantages of all of the medical and other benefits the company offers. Yearly increases, great performance bonus opportunities.

    Cons

Culture is dysfunctional. Your success if not just your performance, but who you are best buddies with. People get promoted and are given opportunities that are based upon who your friend is. Poor work life balance. As one VP noted, "I don't care which 12 hours out of 24hours I get, as long as I get my 12 hours from you". APOC comes first.

    Advice to Management

Say thank you, appreciate your employees and how hard they work to bring value to the company and your customers.

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care full-time

    Pros

If you are a average sales person/ field support person or below average marketing person and wish to have a job that places high expectations and achieves low results then this is a perfect place for you to come and work (hide).

    Cons

Senior leadership messaging is scattered, Marketing provides little to no field/ technical support. Mid level management is weak as most of the top performers have left over the past 3+ years. Career path is non-existent for current employees as there is very little training/ advancement roles. Very tough product to sell/ learn and requires a high amount of expertise to satisfy customer. Many high level positions... filled from the outside and they are clueless on product/ process... leaving many customers unsatisfied.

I worked at Abbott Point of Care full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great product, good benefits and sharp sales peers

    Cons

Senior leadership is just about the numbers, without enough consideration for the healthcare market dynamics, ACA and the fact the product has been in the market for 24+ years. The system needs more new cartridge/test additions
