    Comprehensive suite of tests, good people that care about work/life balance

    bad customer service, sales rep service support, bueracratic

    Advice to Management

    empower the reps to be the quarterback on the service-side. The tail is currently wagging the dog and customer's hate Abbott POC because of it. If you are going to charge a premium price, you have to deliver premium and QUICK service

    I worked at Abbott Point of Care (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The company has a solid product and it could be very big in the marketplace. Solid financial foundation as well.

    Cons

    Leadership of the division does not appreciate the seismic shift which must take place in the hospital environment in order for the system to be adopted. The sales process should be more centered on a "top down" approach than the current "bottom up" philosophy.

    Advice to Management

    Spend more time, energy, and effort in approaching upper level management and hospital leadership to get them on board with the concept of POC testing.

    Pros

    Have been working for Abbott for 9 years and enjoy what I do.

    Cons

    The only downside is when my husband job relocates to FL not able to continue on with my current job or at less work from home for Abbott if I have to relocate,.

    Pros

    Strong company financially. History of growth. Great products (at least from our view)

    Cons

    New President bringing over upper management people from another division- does not understand our business day to day operations.

    Advice to Management

    Quit all the micro-managing of every single task- it's tough out there right now. We are trying to close business in a very tough environment- no new products in years...high priced...

    Pros

    Abbott Point of Care is a small division of Abbott, so you have the opportunity for exposure to many facets of the business and levels of the organization. It is an opportunity-rich environment. Compensation is quite competitive for similar positions within the industry. Opportunities for growth within the division are limited, but if you are willing to relocate there are a tremendous amount of opportunities across Abbott.

    Cons

    The division lets people go at least once a year making the organization always in the midst of change. Employees are always wondering and speculating about who is next and when the next layoff will be. In my career I have never seen so many people let go and so often.

    Advice to Management

    More care should be taken to create a positive culture for employees. Employees love the product, believe in what they are doing, but in general do not like working here. It's tough to stay motivated when fear and stress permeate the division. If only management could get this right... it would be an amazing place to work.
