I worked at Abbott full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice place to work...somewhat progressive in their thinking and will often ask for feedback from field sales reps..are fair with their pay scale

    Cons

They have way too many layers of management t and this making decisions often don't have a clue...this needs to be trimmed so the right people make appropriate decisions

    Advice to Management

Try to spend somesome more time in the field..everything can't be decided by sending out surveys over and over..ivory towers need to come down

    Pros

Good learning opportunity from established processes. Most colleagues who are helpful and willing to pitch in to complete a project.

    Cons

As a contractor, the cons are limited. Most employees appeared to be frustrated by the level of effort required to get management buy-in for much needed process changes.

    Pros

Great culture, employee benefits, and Work-Family Life balance exceeded expectations.

    Cons

Career development of talent could have been improved.

    Advice to Management

I would have completed a career development plan right away, and found out about some of the employee benefits sooner.

    Pros

    Good salary, benefits, well-known name.
Solid performance, stable if moderate growth.
Cost of living north of Chicago is modest, a good place to raise a family.

    Cons

Very large organization can make it hard to be recognized for contributions.
Conglomerate business model is detracting from some traditional values of the company.

    Advice to Management

You won't be able to buy all of the innovation for the future product pipeline. Invest in organic growth.

I worked at Abbott full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Abbott is a stable, well-funded company with great benefits, a generous time off policy and nice cafeteria and fitness facilities. The company is going through a lot of change right now and if you're in the right area and in the right role, it's a great place to build and grow your career.

    Cons

Due to being in a highly regulated business, there's a fairly low tolerance for risk and creativity. Some polices can feel a little "big brotherish" and it can take a long time to work through all the approvals to move forward with new initiatives. For employees who do not live in the northern suburbs or Wisconsin, Abbott's location can make for a difficult commute.

    Advice to Management

    Trust your employees more.
