    Pros

NICE, smart employees Collaboration and Face to Face communication is part of the culture. Employees genuinely care about the success of the company and strive to make it a better place every day.

    Cons

Retail in general is an up and down industry and Abercrombie and Fitch is not immune to market trends. Still plagued in the media by events that happened long ago.

    Advice to Management

It all starts with the product. With quarter after quarter of declining sales, the company needs to take a hard look at the product assortment and make changes to course correct.

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Pay is well above market average
    - Onsite gym and occasional workout classes
    - Almost monthly company Happy Hours/parties with free food and alcohol

    Cons

Overall A&F continues to have a toxic culture! HR will say that the culture has changed and it has definitely gotten better now Mike is gone but don't be fooled! There are still tons of cliques and if you aren't an "Abercrombie kid", don't even bother.
They claim they are hiring from outside the company to get new ideas and a fresh perspective but if you didn't start your career at Abercrombie, you might as well be a leper.
I came from another company and any idea I presented was immediately shot down or not even listened to.
They continue to have a system of promoting based on how long you've been working there so many managers have no experience and have been able to rise up the ranks even though they have no experience and were not ready to be promoted. Managers who are left over from the "Mike Days" and still have favor with HR are lazy and rude.
Most of my coworkers were lazy and whiny compared to coworkers I've had at other companies.
Also, they are changing the Merchant role and have essentially made it obsolete. Merchants used to just do production but they are handing that over to a Production & Sourcing team. Planning will continue to have control of all financials so Merchants won't really be needed soon.
Honestly this company hasn't had a good season in years and will probably be filing for bankruptcy in the next few years so my suggestion is stay away!

    Advice to Management

Clean house again! Most of the managers and HR left over from Mike's era petty, lazy, and ineffective.
You hired people from outside organizations to get news ideas and then ignored them and drove them out!

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn as a young designer. Work life balance has come a long way and is much better than most places. Big teams so there are enough people to get the work done. A lot of opportunity for advancement and growth. Great health insurance benefits

    Cons

Constant organizational change and feeling of uncertainty about security of your job. Not enough training for management. Management and HR do not know how or take enough time to properly career map with employees and do not really listen to what employees want for their careers. Business has been declining for many years so stock is not worth much. This used to be a good benefit given to associates but with the value today it doesn't amount to much

    Advice to Management

Invest in employees more and keep professionalism top of mind. People look to you as a mentor.

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company's social atmosphere that is nurtured between employees is fun and challenging. For the most part it is a meritocracy which, if you don't mind performing under pressure is a good thing.

    Cons

Sometimes unrealistic expectations from upper management. The hours can be very demanding and the company has a cult like culture. This is great for some, but not all. I also saw many people 'promised' promotions only to get looked over. They were then dragged on for months, sometimes years at a time for said 'promotion'.

    Advice to Management

Pushing people to perform beyond what they think they are capable of is great, but know what the limits are. Don't promise people promotions and not give it to them, and then lead them on. Unfair.

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

fun people. the campus is beautiful, extremely picturesque. Cafe food is delicious.

    Cons

Extremely long work hours- everyone has the mentality that if you are staying late in the office, you are inevitably working hard and that is not the case. Felt like I was doing superficial work. Everyone in the company is young and lots of people leaving company.
