I worked at Aberdeen Asset Management full-time

    Pros

Benefits are good but change a lot as the company searches for nickels under the sofa

    Cons

No job security; The culture has changed negatively due to all the acquisitions. the CEO is ruthless and doesn't acknowledge that people matter to the business. No loyalty

    Advice to Management

Leave the company. this is no longer a startup it once was. Its a public company that deserves better management making better decisions and actually understanding the business that they are in. Its stunning a public company with a Board can behave this way

I have been working at Aberdeen Asset Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

good work life balance, nice people, good cross-team engagement, don't fire frequently, good communication top-down, fun summer events, good benefits

    Cons

below average pay - supposedly worth it given less intense hours, important decisions made in London, Philadelphia location not ideal, but fine

    Advice to Management

I would pay more to young analysts either in form of bonus/salary in order to get better talent/incentivize employees to work harder. Would give more power to regional offices.

    Pros

Great open working environment. Made long lasting friendships and great working relationships. Amazing company culture.

    Cons

Management is a bit vague of overall goals at times. Unclear linkage of performance to bonus packages at end of year.

    Advice to Management

More guidance on the high level goals of the company. More transparency in strategic goals. Clearer linkage of bonus to performance.

    Pros

    Cons

Euro-centric management to the detriment of the group in the US

    Advice to Management

Learn to be a global investment manager and not a European manager.

    Pros

Aberdeen has great benefits including free healthcare, exceptional PTO and sick time, profit sharing and a higher than average bonus program

    Cons

Management stands around all day gossiping about their social lives while the lower employees do most of the work for poor pay and no acknowledgment. Men are paid more than women and lousy behaviour is tolerated from certain employees but not others. Raises and promotions are given based on who you know, and if you're in with the "cool drinking clique" based on hard work, performance, and tenure.

    Pros

    They have good benefits there.

    Cons

In the US offices, people get promoted for who they know and drink with, not for how qualified or knowledgeable they are. Senior management is immature. It's a UK based company and all decisions are UK-driven. Management is disrespectful towards lower level employees.

    Advice to Management

Invest in employees and infrastructure, technology. Slow down with the acquisitions until you get the fundamentals set.
