I worked at Abington Memorial Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people! I worked with all the attending medical staff and their office support staff. My job was to be a liaison between the on and off campus medical practice with the various ancillary services within the main hospital(s) as well as administration and any/all updates as to the ongoing changes/enhancements that the hospitals were undergoing.

    Cons

Very few raises, and minimal at best. There was more emphasis toward the medical practices that were owned by the hospital, predominantly primary care physicians and not enough toward the referring doctors and surgeons.

    Advice to Management

Do more to boost the overall morale of the hospital and remember, even though it has become a huge corporation, never lose focus on making employees feel valued and a part of the big picture.

I have been working at Abington Memorial Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of my peers are also newer nurses - so not a lot of peer bullying . AMH hires RN without their BSN and offers compensation to further education

    Cons

Many of the support staff have an attitude when asked for help (kitchen staff, veni puncture).

    Advice to Management

cap med-surg nurses at 5 patients. Patients are sicker than ever and 6-7 patients each having tests to go to/questions about their care/needing meds crushed in puree is too much for one nurse.

    Pros

CLL was quite supportive when learning new skills and responded if available. Nursing educator
would also check on missing protocols for nursing procedures.

    Cons

Could not always get help when I asked my coworkers or CNA. I always took time to assist coworkers patients when I answered call lights. I felt overwhelmed and unable to get support when my patients were having critical issues. I did call the liaison,, but was told she was not available. Accused of not asking for help and assumed that I did not do enough for my patients.

    Advice to Management

I typed up reports on issues in question. My manager was not as supportive then I would have expected. I left a message for the DON, but never was contacted..

    Pros

The only pro is that I got acute hospital experience. That is is the only thing that I can think of.

    Cons

Very very racist staff. Most nurses do not hold a BSN, and they are the ones that try the most to assert their dominance and authority in almost everything that they do. As you can imagine, this creates a hostile and tense work environment. Nursing Manager has NO people skills at all. Poor example of a magnet hospital. Let's hope Jefferson gives the boot to all the under qualified, aggressive, racist nurses. The manager can go to!
