I worked at AboveNet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed some of the people on the team and targeted customers. Potential for revenue and growth. Great engineering support.

    Cons

Management at the time was angry most of the time and took it out on employees. Micro management is putting it nicely.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect instead of constant put down. Understand who your employees are and know them. Expectation that your would be up after 9 pm to check emails on Sunday night for last minute changes that affected your next morning every weekend is unreasonable.

    Pros

Great caring company, with good work life balance. Good rewards and recognition and potential to go far in once career.

    Cons

Not much to say, can not think of anything, I would like to see as an improvement. Perhaps a little greater flexibility in the work life balance.

    Pros

    Stable work environment
    Great Pay
    Great processes and Policies

    Cons

A little bit heavy on the politics and favoritism
Not a lot of room to move up.
Sold to Zayo out of nowhere and this could wipe out what made AboveNet a great and successful company

    Advice to Management

Any management (or anyone) that was transitioned to Zayo should work to preserve the AboveNet way.

I have met a number of solid people all across the country in my time at AboveNet.

    Cons

Erratic schedule. (nights --> days --> nights --> weekends
Claims to promote from within. In 6 years, this has not happened in the Oak Brook office...

Communications between depts could be better
    Internal advancement is difficult

    Advice to Management
