I have been working at Abt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working for Abt has always been a pleasure. There is no other place on earth like it. Abt provides me with a Super unique work environment, reasonable hours(especially for retail), and good compensation. We have automatic credibility and have the ability to make our own decisions without being micromanaged.

    Cons

Not a lot of downsides. My only downside is my hour commute. People often have asked me "are you crazy" I may be. However, I would rather drive an hour to do a job I like to do and work for a company that I love.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your people.

    Pros

Abt is the best place to work in Chicago land. I look forward everyday to come here. I love my job & would recommend to everyone to work for Abt. The family is great with everyone & they also will listen & talk to anyone with any questions in their mind.
once again, truly the BEST PLACE TO WORK FOR IS ABT.

    Cons

I wish I would have known about this company when I got out of college 20 years ago.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at Abt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Abt is without a doubt the kind of place that anyone working in retail wants to be. They are firm but fair in every case, and accommodate the personal schedules of their employees to a level rarely seen in a fast floor, customer-service based environment. Easy family to work for, they are carrying on the tradition of their family name with employees and customers every day. Employees are empowered to make decisions that most corporate environments require a week's worth of committees to arrive at. I drive an hour one way in order to get to work, and this company is the reason why. Our motto is "the answer to any reasonable question is YES" and this is the prevailing attitude 82 years in.

    Cons

none, other than I wish I had started my career here when I was just a kid.

I worked at Abt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good pay lots of overtime

    Cons

Inside staff and driver installer staff are consistently on different pages.
Upper and lower management are incapable of handling problems in a reasonable manner and make brash decisions in regards to their employees.
Hours were relentless as I was working over 65 hours weekly.
Bonus fund was used to hold people back rather than being a motivator to do better it was held over our heads as a looming punishment as in a low bonus fund means you don’t get raises.

    Advice to Management

To Ricky John billy and mike, try being more like your dad and embody the spirit of a good company, happy employees make for good business, or the company will end up like him.

I worked at Abt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good training, good employee discount

    Cons

Little work/life balance, pay could be better, management, lack of communication, overly expensive health insurance

    Advice to Management

The morale went downhill after Mr. Abt passed away, mainly because four people trying to run a company creates a lot of issues. Management is of almost no help and needs to start having employees’ backs instead of nickel and diming their “bonus” funds at every opportunity. That doesn’t keep morale high. And don’t send them “anonymous” surveys (spoiler alert: they are not anonymous). If an employee has grievances and concerns, maybe try addressing them privately and in a constructive manner that might help resolve those issues...rather than simply firing them because “it’s not really working out.” Realize that employees (especially those with kids) need to have lives outside of work.
