    Pros

Close knit company. ASO corporate is a great starting point. You can learn about your industry, network and pick up a reference or two for just doing the bare minimum.

    Cons

Easy to get comfortable. Excellence is not acknowledged. Most projects and departments are far behind industry norms in tech, ideation and process management.

    Advice to Management

Do not smother new talent with "this is how we do it here". Cultivate creativity and ideas.

    Pros

Employee discount, working with some great people, was occasionally laid back, and work was never difficult.

    Cons

Very poor management, little to no recognition for hard work, lied about some raises that were promised, just another big company that sees an employee as a number, absolutely no possibilities to further yourself in the company as they hired managers multiple times from wal-mart instead of promoting deserving employees.

    Advice to Management

Try to give recognition to deserving employees, and do your best to make them happy before the guy that was hired a couple days ago. Try to promote employees, or look internally to move people up, instead of looking to other stores for managers.

I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the great advantages working for Academy is working with great people is the great thing about working at Academy. I've met so many people working here and I enjoy the atmosphere. Meeting great customers who I enjoy helping when I'm out on the sales floor. I love to provide excellent customer service! Also, they do tend to be a tad bit flexible with you work schedule all depending on your situation at hand. Just being honest. The health benefits are ok. Not too expensive.

    Cons

The cons of working here that management needs to learn how to communicate better with their associates. If they would work on that and stop gossiping about who did this and that or who has done what, then the store that I'm currently at right now would run a whole lot smoother if they would just do that. Quit playing favoritism, and being someone's friend instead of doing your job as management. If you are looking for a career, this is not the place to do that but it is a start off to help you get where you need to be until you can do better. No room for advancement opportunities unless you are the favorite person they love best. Or see you as a setup guy to fail. Better yet let's just say being their flunkie for certain positions until they make you quit. I've seen it too many times.

    Advice to Management

Stop being lazy, motivate and educate your staff more. Show more appreciation more than what you do because at the end of the day you are constantly making the company look bad, people are quitting like flies, not realizing the retention rate for that particular store is off the charts as is! Communicate with your team members and stop going somewhere hiding and talking all day with other managers. Just do your job and not a half decent one! When someone needs them, they are nowhere to be found unless the store director is there. Other than that they do like that want and it's not fair to us an employee. And another thing stop putting on big fronts for the RVP when they come to the store! If you want to keep grade A workers, then I suggest you do right by them! Enough said!

    Great coworkers make like family.

    Cons

Very inconsistent scheduling, unreliable team leads.

    Advice to Management

Try to avoid having an employee scheduled and then sending them home an hour or two hours into their shift because the store is slow.

    Pros

Academy Sports has potential for real growth but way too much "office politics" goes into getting ahead with this company.

    Cons

The "office politics" and absolutely worthless District Manager position needs to go NOW. Find some way to get those DM's a real job, please.

    Advice to Management

Give your Floor Associates commissions to drive better sales.
