I worked at Accela, Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lunch served twice a week, benefits such as health, dental, 401k were decent.

    Cons

Unexpected rounds of layoffs with bursts of re-hiring the same positions, pay was on the low end of the bay area. no incentives to excel in your job, commute is decent if you live with 5-10 miles.

    Advice to Management

Over staffed in certain departments and understaffed in key roles, always trying to stretch a buck but willing to spend on frivolous things for executive. the product should be re-written from the ground up for performance and standardization.

I have been working at Accela, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, stocked kitchen, weekly meals, great health insurance, and their products are causing disruption in the market area helping governments to get with the times.

    Cons

Several acquisitions have created lots of upheaval in the last few years and management is struggling to retain the correct number of staff as well as the right team members. Heavy turnover has created challenges for those of us that remained or were retained in the restructures. Recent management changes are proactively involving staff trying to push us back in the right direction, but 5 rounds of layoffs in two years crippled morale. Communication across the board is not good. Being in a business unit outside of the core segment will see stagnation.

    Advice to Management

New CEO is pushing out the right communication internally and externally. Review how your acquisitions are operating and prop up the right management teams within them to bring clients and staff back into good faith.

I have been working at Accela, Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Accela has been undergoing a major overhaul in 2016. The vast majority of executive team has been replaced with experienced and professional leaders. The company has shifted focus from rapid growth to improving the product, investing where we should, and doing what companies of this caliber should do - strive to make a profit. That said, there were some unpopular decisions made over the course of the year but I see a strong future as we shift our strategic focus.

    Cons

Tremendous focus on the financial health of the company is a refreshing change but comes with drawbacks. I.e., expectations from our new leadership are high.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on improving financial health, customer satisfaction, and product.

I worked at Accela, Inc. (More than a year)

    Pros

Company has a lot of potentially business changing software solutions to offer state and local government.
Great projects that you can learn a lot from
Many skilled employees ( many have been cut)
    Pay is competitive
benefits including 401K match is also good

    Cons

    Disjointed staff and management
No formal training process aside from videos
Everyone who works outside of CA is pretty much on their own ( that's a lot of people)
Focus on billable work instead of capitalizing on skilled employees.

    Advice to Management

Assess the talent of your employees and utilize them accordingly. If you are going to make cuts or restructure, do it for the right reasons not just to help the bottom line. In the long run projects will suffer if you cut skilled employees.

    Pros

    Pretty competitive pay.
Flexible working hours for remote employees.
If your work's getting done, you're left alone.
    Management is fairly hands-off.
Remote employees can live anywhere in the U.S. (within about an hour of international airport).
Middle management listens to employee's concerns, but they only have so much power to effect change.

    Cons

Getting help can be a struggle at times.
Hard to get training on the proprietary software while maintaining 80%+ utilization.
They tend to "clean house" once or twice a year to remove those who aren't performing at their highest. If you're not the cream of the talent, you'll eventually get laid off.

    Advice to Management

Taking a company public is an admirable goal, and a real feather in your corporate cap if you do it successfully, but don't lose site of the company you already have beneath you. If you're only working to go public for the financial gain and a line on your resume, then perhaps you need to pause and review what success means to the organization as a whole, down to the very last employee.

I have been working at Accela, Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

We had a day where we flew drones, at least a few people did, while everyone pretended to be interested for a video promo of the company. Some people spend too much time with being part of some fun committee without focus on what matters... making awesome products and services that people will pay for.

    Cons

Pay scale his is in the lower 25%, that will need to change as we just RIF'd a bunch of people.

    Advice to Management

Time to reset the company to make profits
