I worked at Accelrys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Met some very bright and interesting people. Company is very flexible with working from home, etc. Some products are fun to work with (I am a geek). One senior person I hold responsible for a lot of dissatisfaction has now left.

    Cons

Management was always chasing the next company to take over. Company was fragmented and did not feel as one company. Commercially the decision in life sciences to prioritise lab notebooks over science was probably right but as a scientist I felt left behind. Company had (has) large churn. Services were punished for success.

    Advice to Management

I would guess there are no notebook companies left to take over but even if there are stop taking them over. Integrate the technologies you have acquired. There is science in life science, Pipeline Pilot is seen too much as an integration platform and the likes of Knime/Python are taking over the datamining field.

I have been working at Accelrys full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Terrific people, all committed to making great products. Good scientists, very open atmosphere for discussions etc. Company looks after people quite well, lots of events/things going on. Good mix of scientists and engineers, very young and driven workforce. Very international too.

    Cons

Have to find 20 words - not easy. It is a great place!

I have been working at Accelrys full-time

    Pros

Excellent work environment. Close knit community of scientists within the company and very helpful.

    Cons

Better compensation is required. The pay-raise is in not commensurate with the increasing job responsibilities and experience.

    Pros

Accelrys offers many products across many disciplines.

    Cons

Management could use more scientific leadership.

    Pros

A place suitable to someone who does not mind tackling an inordinate number of action items all of which are super critical.

    Cons

Potential to grow the business is guaranteed, the growth is not commensurate to the potential

    Advice to Management

Challenge the team to get out of their comfort zone. Currently most workers are doing what they know how best to do (which is good for staus-quo but not necessarily effective for demonstrating growth)

    Pros

    Happy Hours
    Cafeteria
    Clean Bathrooms
(Notice I can not think of anything positive work related to say about the company?)

    Cons

Management is very risk averse and accordingly tends to micromanage its employees which is kind of a downer if you're not used to it.
If management values its employees, I haven't seen it.
Communication from the top is abyssmal.
Finally, if you're looking to work with the best and brightest, you won't find that here.

    Advice to Management

Let people do their job. Have confidence in your employees' abilities and give them the support and recognition they deserve. Finally, talk to your employees.

    Cons

The company has been downsizing for the last few years, it is very stressfull to work there.

    Advice to Management

Focusing on constructive solution, rather than micro management to drive people crazy all the time.
