I worked at Accenture full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They are value driven, and the consultantcy culture permeates the organization. High-level, smart, trustworthy people will be your teammates.

    Cons

Travel, workload, and to a lesser degree (sometimes self-inflicted) work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Never loose the "Consultant" culture... as the market and the business changes, the types of resources being hired will inevitably change, but do not loose the culture.

I worked at Accenture as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - interns get to travel on projects with their team, just like a full time analyst would
    - great salary and signing bonus for full time
    - they got rid of their former analyst ranking system, to prevent competition. Now analysts are evaluated based on their own performance, and not compared to others
    - people are generally down to earth and easy to talk to, especially if you're new
    - Active development programs for entry level employees and minorities to expose them to higher ups, programs the company offers, etc.
    - Plenty of opportunities to meet MDs in your office

    Cons

    - firm size (the company has 400k practitioners globally, which is a LOT. It's not like you're interacting with that many people on a daily basis, but if you decide to work from the office on Fridays, it will usually be a hodge-podge of random people that you've never met, as people come into the office usually pretty inconsistently, so it'll always be someone new)
    - they just implemented the regional staffing model (you will only be staffed on projects that are in the same geographical region as your home office). Its good for people who are settling down and don't want to travel, but make sure you choose your home office wisely based on your lifestyle preferences and industry interests (ex: if you want to work on financial services projects, you should choose NYC as your home office, compared to San Francisco)
    - staffing model is also pretty random. You get assigned a "career counselor", but its generally expected that you network like crazy to get staffed on projects. And projects can be scarce depending on the time of year and economic cycle, so make sure you know a few people before joining the firm so networking into a project isn't as difficult
    - new analyst training takes place in their outdated conference facility in middle-of-nowhere Illinois for 2 weeks (honestly not that bad, but its no Deloitte University)
    - definite separation of departments. I interned with Strategy, which has a completely different recruiting team, projects, etc. from Consulting, Technology, etc. So when you're networking with people to get on a project, make sure the people you talk to are in your same department, or else they can't help you

I have been working at Accenture full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good opportunities for young college grads to get experience, and for seasoned Vets to find interesting work.
    - Benefits are pretty good.
    - Lots of training available for a large range of technologies and concepts. Available as CBTs.

    Cons

    - Management is absolutely horrible. If you are a level 10 or below, higher ups will use you to pad their numbers then throw you away when done.
    - If you aren't good at brown-nosing, be prepared to go no where. Only apply if you have good office politics skills. Otherwise, you're just a number.
    - Pay is far below industry average. And raises and promotions are terrible difficult to get due to their "ladder system".

    Advice to Management

-Don't use and abuse your employees. I've had management lie to my face about a number of things. Yet, there is no real power structure for employees to have their grievances heard that results in immediate tangible action.
-While working at client sites I felt utterly alone. As if I had no help, no back up, and no resources available. It was me against the world.
-Management seems all too happy to use little strikes against you as any excuse to shut you out. I wasted a 1 and a half years of my life working hard to appease the client only to be throw out the door over one slip up. A slip up that I didn't even know was a problem because management failed to communicate to me the client's feedback. I was punished for my manager's incompetence!
