We're certainly never pleased to see a review like this, especially from a current employee. Our pay rates are extremely competitive. In fact, pay is the category on Glassdoor where we score the ... More

I worked at Access full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tthe Ravinia building offered a more professional setting versus where the company was before.

    Cons

The place was full of highly toxic management and highly toxic co-workers because they don't care to hire talent. They hire cheap labor. This place felt like a factory or mill where everyone was just enslaved into thinking inside the box. No room for upper movement unless you fall in favor of management.

    Advice to Management

Hire talent in all areas and learn how to retain talent. Most of the management or key positions live in fear of being out of a job and when they see a dedicated and talented person who knows a bit more they go out of their way to frame them out of a job.

I worked at Access full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When it was small and growing there was a lot of innovation, especially in the technical space. There was an entrepreneurial / cutting edge feel.

    Cons

    Too many to name.
    - Senior management was dictatorial. I personally overheard multiple managers at the senior level yelling at staff members on more than one occasion.
    - Definitely a clique among the management team where you were either in or out.
    - Lack of concrete direction. Business decisions made based on theory or opinion and not statistics
    - Lack of insurance experience or skills among managers.
    - After I left, I received negative feedback from recruiters and other insurance company HR managers regarding the poor reputation of the company overall and its senior management.

    Advice to Management

Hire talented and experienced managers. Promoting from within is a wonderful concept but many of the promotions were made based on relationships and not experience or skill sets. Mandate that any new lead, supervisor or manager take classes on leadership and interpersonal skills.

I thank this person for taking the time to share their views. But hard to believe anyone would stay 5 years if their employer was really a "1-star" kind of place. That's sad. We agree that ... More

I have been working at Access full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is decent, but that's it. Honestly can't put anything else in this section. Nothing else is decent here. So sad.

    Cons

Everything else. This place does not investigate claims. Only focus is to close claims ASAP by closing out reserves before the claim is done. Other adjusters get credit by closing down your files and get stupid Emmy trophies for shutting down other people's files, when the adjuster who is actually trying to work a quality file, gets absolutely no credit for doing so. This place needs to refocus on its priorities before the DOI files bury it in the ground.

    Advice to Management

Focus on quality worked files, customer service and employee morale, instead of constantly emailing stupid excel spread sheets every few minutes emphasizing closing reserves when they shouldn't be.

I worked at Access (More than a year)

    Pros

Occasional breakfast or lunches brought by management. Great adjusters, lots of talent.

    Cons

Management just cares about the numbers. Loads of everything - losses, mail, emails, voicemails etc. Limits resources as time passes just to "save money". Overworked employees. Must come in on Sat just to stay afloat.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your adjusters. Figure out what the flaws in the system are instead of implementing changes that don't make any sense.

    Pros

Access Insurance is a non standard insurance company and like all non standard insurance companies the work load can be stressful at times. Management is very aware of the workload and are in the works of relieving the stress.

    Cons

The workload is challenging but rewarding at the same time. If you take pride in your work and love a challenging career then Access in a great company to work for.

    Advice to Management

More bodies to help relieve the stress.

Nice location. Covered parking. 5 words is tough for this one, guys.

    Cons

No budget for IT, no concern for quality, or the customer, or the people, or anything really. No path for advancement. No appreciation foe tenure. Crappy raises. Bad benefits.

    Advice to Management

Let people who know what they are doing make decisions.

I worked at Access full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are great. Pay is good. 401k with company match. I liked my manager. There is a lot of talent in claims.

    Cons

No leadership at the top. Owner seems disinterested in the employees and has unethical policies in place. There is no vision, and the departments do not communicate with each other. Everyone in claims is overworked, and there is no sense of work life balance or respect for family values. This leads to a culture of people who are very negative and do not care about the company because the company does not care about them.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees!!! Claims needs better work life balance. The employees company wide need better health insurance and profit sharing bonus. Look at work from home opportunities for jobs where it makes sense.

The people you work with make your job easier to handle. MY last manager was wonderful to work with. Good heath insurance and matching 401k

    Cons

Stressful job! Most days is hard to get all of you task/diary complete

    Advice to Management

You need to look at telecommute opportunities and stop with the micro management
