I worked at Accretive Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits, except 401k is between one-and-two percent matching for managers, and none at all for Directors and above! Great culture. People are very thoughtful, welcoming, and collaborate often on projects. Project material and scope is very interesting. Great work-life balance, intended for people with families. Work-from-home anytime, and very flexible work schedule. Location couldn't be any better - downtown Chicago!

    Cons

Fragmented software process(Scrum). Low-quality software(manually tested, if anything) that usually doesn't scale, non-maintainable, and at risk for bugs in prod. Dev team(India) usually produces low-quality deliverables and is adverse to learning new technology. Most IT folks don't want to take accountability and shrug problems away. Projects are usually over-budget, and delivered outside of the planned timeline. Priorities shift too often, with staff resources shifting project-to-project. This company does a lot of talking, but not much doing. This company doesn't care much about quality, just hitting deadlines with something that appears to work. Dev team in India isn't allowed to stay past 5pm, use only desktops, and it could take a month to approve an installation. In general, this company is not competitive in the market, strongly due to its weak IT, and inability to motivate improvement internally.

    Advice to Management

Revisit your core values. Retain strong candidates rather than outsourcing all the work to India to save money and compromise on quality.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

It's a decent paying job that allow you to work from home.

    Cons

There is no opportunity to advance. Management play by their own rules when it benefits them. They don't follow the company policy. Try to deny your vacation even if you request way ahead of time. The immediate manager does not know the job of their employees, so cannot use as a resource if a question arises.

    Advice to Management

Please learn your employees' roles so you can help if they have questions or run into any issues.

    Pros

There are some wonderful knowledgeable people who work for the company. These employees have excellent ideas to improve functionality and streamlining processes but are not given manager roles.

    Cons

Employees are under utilized and managers are not engaging those with ideas and if they do they take credit off others. If you aren't in the clique you are almost non-existent. No one knows who is doing what and there are managers that have absolutely no knowledge or skill in jobs that are in charge of people.

    Advice to Management

Please get your head's out of the clouds and look at what is going on at the street level of the company. Hire or promote employees that know their jobs. Offer training to stay current in skills that are pertinent. What could be a well oiled machine is more of a car continually being rebuilt.

I worked at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

    Great staff to work with.

    Cons

The pay here is awful. People who have been there 20 plus years might be making $13.00, everyone else expect $11. No organization. Learn how to do everything yourself, which this is not a job that you should just wing. All other departments look down on you and are rude. I tried really hard to always be positive, but when everyone wants to quit it gets hard.

    Advice to Management

Their hands are tied so there is not much they can do. Corporate; however, should have a competitive salary and better training. Realize that when people keep quitting, after a couple months, that something is wrong.

    Pros

Flexibility was decent and now they are asking for schedules that has to be adhered.

    Cons

Change of flexibility of schedule, pushes for speed but quickly calls for inaccuracies..Harder to maintain productivity due to worklow and new "formula" for getting credit completing charts.

    Pros

As one former director stated to me "it is what it is."

    Cons

Major cultural training needed. A lot of Caucasian males at management level who have don't have a clue so they prey on non-Caucasian employee's skill and experience and take the credit for the work.

    Advice to Management

Make mandatory training available to all "leads," "management" and "directors." Provide quality service to the hospitals which entrusted may poverty handicapped communities to Accretive.

    Pros

Great Employees to work with. Hours are nice - no one starts before 9am so great work life balance

    Cons

Leadership is like working with 5 year olds. Very emotional and rude. Everyone is part of the boys club and tells the CEO how good he is.

    Advice to Management

get new leadership that has worked some place besides Accretive.
