    Pros

As one former director stated to me "it is what it is."

    Cons

Major cultural training needed. A lot of Caucasian males at management level who have don't have a clue so they prey on non-Caucasian employee's skill and experience and take the credit for the work.

    Advice to Management

Make mandatory training available to all "leads," "management" and "directors." Provide quality service to the hospitals which entrusted may poverty handicapped communities to Accretive.

I worked at Accretive Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    None really come to mind.

    Cons

Avoid the Kalamazoo Michigan location of this company like the plague! Middle-management is a joke, office atmosphere is like high school, you have to account for every second of your day so God help you if you have to go to the bathroom too much. Very stressful job for very little pay. You have to fight for every dollar commission that you earn. Horrible experience.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at your department leads and basically all middle-management. Nepotism runs rampant, and there is a level of incompetence that is just stunning.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

The view is nice. You get to see all the protests and tourists on the Michigan street side and get to daydream looking at planes and boats on the lake side. The dress code is relaxed. Umm.... The pay is ok, i guess. Yeah, that's all i've got.

    Cons

Health benefits are toooooo high. Teams work in silos. Been here for over a year and barely know the names of all the people in my own department. It very quiet. The only time there is remotely any activity is when a batch of new hires come in (all happy and giddy) or when there is left over food somewhere and everyone gets wind of it. Otherwise its very quiet. Sometimes library quiet. No place to have private calls or conversations (can't do it at your desk because its so quiet and everyone is listening). Lack of conference rooms. The opportunities for advancement some reviews speak of is not very apparent to many people in the company. Many want to leave, but haven't found that next thing yet. Pretty depressing atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

While you are trying to "build a culture," don't forget to include AT LEAST one line about your employees. Like how you intend on retaining and rewarding employees aside from offering retention bonuses (which are nice, but temporary). We know all the company is concerned about is numbers and clients. But you wouldn't have either without the employees. Reach out to companies in Chicago like Google, Health Care Service Corp, Groupon, GrubHub, etc to see how they retain and keep their employees engaged. Engaged employees drive the bottom line.

    Pros

Great location in the loop! The office is close to all public trans, not to mention near great places for lunch and shopping.

    Cons

Backstabbing, negatively competitive, horrible managers who were promoted undeservingly based on personal connections. Clique-ish management. Mature hourly employees are treated like second-class citizens. I would discourage anyone from working here.

    Advice to Management

Bring in consultants to COMPLETELY overhaul culture

    Pros

Pay check. Some experience. Nice co-workers. Will hire you with little to no experience. They think every one is trainable but they will pay you uneed fair market value.

    Cons

Horrible company. No room for growth or opportunities. Do not promote from within. Management is not properly trained it's more of who you know to get hired. Off shore office in India and they are treated better with more perks.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep the good people promote them.

    Pros

before the company moved to Southfield Mi. they were great to work for and would go out of their way to help a dedicated employee.

    Cons

Once they moved, they secretly and discreetly permanently laid 18 employee's off, and offered them a chance to work for the again in a field they were not remotely trained for . They let go of their top best employee's

    Advice to Management

You should have weeded out the employee's that were taking advantage of your company. Not the ones whom dedicated them selves to the company.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Dedicated, team members. Willing to do whatever is needed to do it right.

    Cons

This is a software as a service company regardless of how they want to brand themselves. They have a large contingent of very dedicated employees but the company lacks true vision and direction. New CEO has been listening to the yes men and thinks he has world class software and infrastructure! JUST THE OPPOSITE. Software offerings need rebuilding from the ground up using standard processes. The disconnect between US and India teams only adds to the lack of focused direction.

    Advice to Management

STOP listening to the middle managers. They only tell you want they want you to hear, or what you want to hear. In so many areas, the cart is coming in front of the horse. Make your hardware and software functional, stable and effective before trying to tweak in end stage efficiency. If you secure garbage, you have done nothing but put a lock on a trash Paul!

    Pros

Accretive Health is growing like crazy. We have a great management team and an awesome vision for where we're headed.

    Cons

Being that we're in the growth stage, there's a lot of change. I find change motivating but it's not for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, we're on an awesome path.
