    Pros

You can find some really great co-workers there, very much in the trenches mentality.

    Cons

    Pay, management is awful.

    Advice to Management

It's said ad nauseum, so hardly worth saying. Pay people living wages and you'll attract and retain better staff.

    - Innovation-minded, always trying new things as they come up
    - Small, family-run company that tries to know each employee
    - Lots of growth and movement opportunities... people are constantly learning and evolving into new roles as the company evolves
    - Passionate people
    - Excellent benefits, much better than other digital companies right now
    - Great community around the area, very involved

    Cons

    - Could use some more company-wide events to encourage cross-department interactions
    - Building is incredibly out-dated

    Advice to Management

    - Continue to foster cross-discipline learning and growth of employees
    - Don't shy away from growing the ranks
    - Update the building. A little paint goes a long way!

    Pros

3 shifts allow for good flexibility, nice staff, community feel, diverse environment, comradery l

    Cons

Your manager is not capable of doing your job, lack of flexibility with advance scheduling conflicts,

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Nice building, great location in nice college town

    Cons

Most dysfunctional company ever worked in, have sales "executives" in place who are completely clueless and can do no wrong, play favorites, and so much drama. Nightmare!

    Advice to Management

Put managers in place who are actually qualified - any good manager or executive hired leaves very quickly as soon as they realize they can't make any decisions. Micromanagement there is unbelievable.

    Pros

It was a meteorology job that paid money. Not much money, but better than zero. The office was better than some smaller private meteorology companies I'd previously interviewed with. It was nice to be able to serve clients.

    Cons

The pay is atrocious. As a meteorologist, expect to start out between 29,000 and 30,000/yr. Then expect to make around that much for the rest of your life. Several mets with 5+ years experience make under $35,000/yr. Compare that to an NWS position with the same experience and you will quickly note the pay difference for the same experience can be 20,000$/yr or more.

Meteorologists are seen as disposable and no effort is made at accuweather to retain quality people. This includes other fields such as HR where we saw our primary contact replaced 3 times in under 2 years and IT where we have steady turnover. Accuweather is treated as nothing more than a stepping stone job for anyone with ambition beyond mediocrity.

For those who do stay, out of some sense of loyalty or other motivation, the lower pay cultivates an unhealthy environment of backstabbing, idea theft and sabotage, and general rat racing. Everyone understands that upward mobility is very rare and the fight to be the one person out of a dozens who has a chance at furthering their careers is a strong motivator.

Towards the end of my tenure at accuweather, suggestions that we should inform our clients about details of our operations that weren't completely true were the last straw. When I was asked to lie to clients regarding how their service was being handled, I decided that was the last straw for me.

I could go on and on, but I've moved on just like most of the other successful people who had the misfortune of working at accuweather have done. If this is your last resort, get your year and get out. There are other opportunities out there once you have that year.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people. You have good folks that could do good things but won't because you either don't give them the opportunity to succeed or you don't compensate them adequately.
