    Pros

Great product and great people. Although the product innovation is almost gone and now falling behind competition ...

    Cons

Extremely bad management - especially the executive team. Layoffs happen every 6 months because mgmt can't plan properly and really doesn't understand the business or customers. The CEO is totally lost and always over promises and under delivers. Need to fire all of upper mgmt and the board of directors that believe the ridiculous operating plan every year and fail the investors and employees regularly. Lack of accountability all around in upper mgmt.

    Advice to Management

Either go to business school to learn how to run a business or fire yourself - because you have no idea how to run the business - when a company laysoff every 6 months, there are real issues at the top and lack of understanding of the business ...

    Pros

Great product, mission, company culture has improved and teams work together well.

    Cons

Financial performance is lacking, stock price does not do well and bonus plans are minimal, though this is said to be being revised in upcoming years.

    Pros

Great products. Good vision for the company recently.

    Cons

One particular manager has a Napoleon complex that is going to sour prospective employees on remaining in the manufacturing arena of the company.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of those managers that practice blatant favoritism. Look into the exceptions to the company rules that are granted to a select few employees in manufacturing.

    Pros

Having to chance to work with brilliant and creative people working together to cure cancer was life changing.

    Cons

Once Accuray acquired TomoTherapy the collaborative culture at TomoTherapy was completely wiped out. Accuray is a very top-heavy company which seemed to have little appreciation for the work of the talented and dedicated people that designed and built the TomoTherapy machine.

    Advice to Management

Have the Madison site be your main headquarters and reduce the headcount in Sunnyvale.

I have been working at Accuray full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is currently transitioning to a matrix style "adult" company after the Accuray-TomoTherapy merger where both were still running as start ups. Lots of growing pains but also lots of opportunity. Everyone knows they are making a difference and has kept me through even the worst times with this company. Overall, its the people who make a good place to work and there are some of the best here.

    Cons

There are still a few very toxic managers left and its taking too long to get them out. Cutting to profitability never works but they keep trying. Partly due to how FDA regulates medical devices but also partly due to executive ignorance, but the company still does not have a handle on managing/planning software products - its gotten a lot better but this growing pain is pretty painful. Change is happening but its slow, so know what you are getting into and ask about corporate growth progress.

    Advice to Management

Look into your micro-managing front line managers and remove them, they are toxic to a good culture. Continue to care and try.

I worked at Accuray full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In the Madison area, they pay better than the majority of other companies in the area. And their benefits are decent for the area as well.

    Cons

I can only speak for the Madison, WI office, so other locations might have a different opinion.

If you don't have a soul and you can look at the mirror everyday and know that you aren't working on a product that you can be proud of, you can survive here. And survive is probably the best word I can use. If you really care about helping cancer patients to get treatment they need or if you have some dignity, this isn't the place for you.

Almost all of the smart people from the TomoTherapy days are long gone. All you have left with are for the most part are people who are clinging on to their jobs because they have nowhere else to go.

Now for the good part of this review. They don't treat their employees very well, and they think that every employee is replaceable with someone right out of college or with a contractor. When you speak up about a problem you are called a complainer. They don't trust their employees at all. Managers expect you to work extra on impossible tasks that have impossible schedules. And if you are Madison, you can only rise to a certain level since all of the upper management comes from the headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees. Treat them with some respect. Don't think that they are replaceable. Actually try to improve the product instead of slapping something together just to get it out the door.

I worked at Accuray full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Had opportunity to work on some fun projects

    Cons

Overworked, undervalued, under-heard. Many functions working in silos.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your current employees before hiring consultants who can tell you the same thing. Make an attempt to retain employees who already know the company in order to fix what's wrong. Consider the idea that management may not have all of the answers.
