    Pros

Family oriented environment with most coworkers working in unison to get the job done. Upper level management all seems to be cohesive in accomplishing goals. For a co-op position, you are going to make a good wage for your first job. I can't stress enough that this is definitely a family oriented culture, including regular discussions with executives whether in passing as a friendly conversation or in monthly luncheons where the corporate office gets together to discuss the company. This level of transparency and coziness makes you feel like a part of the team, regardless of how low on the totem pole you are. On-call shifts for some areas of the team are actually paid hours as included. You will have paid holidays off on most occasions even as a Co-Op, with a full-time employee receiving a range of holiday pay. I was fortunate enough to also travel to a three different Accuride facilities in different parts of the country, though I feel this was mostly due to my relationship with mentors.

    Cons

Very little opportunity to grow. Many of the HR practices are set in the stone age, it doesn't matter if you have fifty years of experience if you do not have a bachelor's degree. For someone who begins their career at the beginning of their education, this leaves them stuck as a Co-Op for four years. I've noticed other employees may also not have room to grow. For individuals looking to advance in security, there was zero opportunity to advance in this area. It isn't that the company has no security initiatives, it's that the responsibility is limited to upper level employee(s).

    Advice to Management

Grow Co-Ops into full-time positions by leveraging their strengths and make opportunity readily available so there are clearly defined goals. This is for all employees in the IT team. Co-Ops should also have regular employee reviews in order to discuss what they need to work on and areas they are strong at. The Co-Op program as it stands is mostly cheap labor for the company instead of an exciting opportunity for the individual to grow. During my time, I sought out my own mentors in the company who helped me tremendously. I worry for someone who does not know to have this initiative if a Co-Op position will even help their career. What the IT department chooses to do with it's prospects should be much more transparent, as being left in the dark on goals, personal progress and eventual opportunities numbs ambition. Unfortunately what made my experience were the mentors I personally developed, without these mentors and other areas I have mentioned, what is really in it for a Co-Op now?

I worked at Accuride full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you have to live in Erie and you have to have a job this is a place to get one. The high turnover pretty much guarantees one is available. Also, if you're not interested in working too hard this is the place. The union pretty much runs the place and you don't need to work hard or show up sober.

    Cons

Unsafe work environment and if you get hurt the health care is poor and they'll find a way to get rid of you...if you're not in the union. An uninspired salary staff guarantees this place is not going to get better soon.

    Advice to Management

None. They had their chance to close this place and move the operation to where people work hard and care. They doubled down on this dump because they were in a hurry to implement their song and dance.
