I have been working at Ace Cash Express full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been with the company for 12 years and for the most part I do like working for Ace Cash Express.

    Cons

Whenever you have problems and you can't settle settle it with your DM it seems like the higher up just side with them. I have a DM the takes my vacation time without me requesting it and put it on my paycheck. Now I don't have my vacation time when I need it. Somehow I feel that that is illegal since we have to request vacation with a form that we have to fill out. Also when you go by corporate rules and a check comes back because it was green-lighted the DM argues with you about not quoting policies to her and then your schedule gets changed and you don't get time off when you request it.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest to the HR Dept and higher up to listen to the employees when they have legitimate complaints instead of siding with the DM and RVP.

I have been working at Ace Cash Express full-time

    Pros

Great work life balance. Good managers. Opportunities to take ownership of projects. Some sharp coworkers to learn from. Reasonably current technology.

    Cons

Lots of horrific legacy code. Boring stunted culture. No fun. Lots and lots of Dev ops and production suppport work to keep the legacy stuff running. Unreasonable focus on meeting deadlines. Lots of negative feedback, zero positive feedback.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee retention. Stop treating IT staff like easily replaceable commodities. Offer better benefits and bonuses. Actually show sincere appreciation for work that is completed. Reverse the culture of negativity. Start celebrating all the achievements of the staff. Add some career paths for developers.

I worked at Ace Cash Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to control your own schedule and work load on a daily or weekly basis. Bonuses are good as long as the goals are realistic. They change constantly but they can't give a good explanation on how they are set. More of a dart board approach.

    Cons

Poor senior management and no real origination. Things constantly change with no real results. This is not a company with strong structure. No career advancement. This is a Payday lender at the core of the business and they cannot be trusted no matter how they may come across. High turnover in DM and Senior Mgt ranks.Since the CFPB is coming after the loan business there is a heavy push on Direct Deposit goals for company survival to offset the upcoming lost in the loan business. Force to fire employee if they miss their goals by a small margin. No real HR structure as well. If can live with yourself knowing you are in the Payday business then it will not be a problem

    Advice to Management

Consistent standards in all areas of the company. Be upfront with employee on how the Payday business works and effects customers.
